Recipe categories[edit]

Are the categories you're creating actual in-game terms? Also, there's a general convention that categories are in lowercase unless they're names. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 08:42, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Oh hey. Sorry about that, was using the titles used on the Chef page; I had assumed that they were using the in-game categorization. Since only one of the categories is multiple words, it'd be no big deal to go back and change them all if its an issue. Rari 08:47, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
Oh ok, that's fine. I was just wondering where you got those terms from. You can probably leave the multi-word category as it is then, considering how it's capitalised on that page anyway. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 08:52, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

User talk:Rari/Queensdale interactive map[edit]

We're actually planning on something a little spiffier than this, whenever we finally get Semantic MediaWiki installed - there's a Semantic Maps extension that will let us build maps from data stored all over the wiki. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 06:00, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Oooo very glad to hear it. I was just playing around with this a bit to see how difficult it'd be to show Juvenile pet spawns, but Semantic Maps would be so much easier to work with. — Rari User Rari sig.png 07:26, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Skill Template[edit]

Please refer to my post here. It might save you some time in the future or have retroactively saved you time in the past should we ever have a time machine. Misery 11:15, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

I saw them both; when I made the sub page template (from those same two) I had expected to fiddle with it more, but had to retire for the night (and yet I am replying from my phone because I am not so good at the sleeping bit.) I do appreciate your attentiveness in pointing both templates out though, good eye! — Rari User Rari sig.png 11:23, 31 July 2012 (UTC)

"was not given option regarding redirects during page move"[edit]

That's because on this wiki, suppressredirect is restricted to sysops only. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:29, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Well, that answers that. Terribly annoying, particularly when working in one's own namespace, but also very understandable. — Rari User Rari sig.png 00:31, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Mystic *I*tems[edit]

I believe that should be lowercase, "Mystic item". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:30, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

Maybe? I had it lower case to begin with in my first draft, but it was uppercase in the screenshot (and on the Mystic Forge page). Edit: I'll change it to lowercase in the template; easy enough to change back. The Mystic Forge page will need to be adjusted to match if you want it to be "Mystic items". — Rari User Rari sig.png 15:36, 4 August 2012 (UTC)
We only follow title-case for names of specific things, like skills, items, NPCs, etc. Names for item types we don't. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:46, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

spelling policy[edit]

I know from other wikis that common spelling mistakes usually redirects to the page which is spelled correctly. I do not know how this wiki handles this issue, but from your speedy deletion tags on pages like "Asura Cultural Armor", I guess it is diffrent from what I am used. Could you explain to me, how thisissue is approched in this wiki. Thanks. - Yandere Talk to me... 15:39, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

That's not my edit, that was Wombatt. That should be a redirect. — Rari User Rari sig.png 15:42, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Ah, sorry I mixed you to up. O_o
I shouldn't edit so much, when I am this tired. Anyway so there is a redirect policy in this wiki... That's nice... ^^ - Yandere Talk to me... 18:23, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Heh, no worries. Basically, Wombatt and I were doing the same thing at the same time, only he was using title case where I was using lowercase, since its general practice to do so ("Asura Cultural Armor" vs Asura cultural armor). Several of the pages bore that title-case That's why I said it should be a redirect; agreeing with your logic, I don't know of any redirect policy (only the help page, which offers suggestions.)

Possible Icon Renaming[edit]

Hey Rari =) I'm uploading cropped screenshots to show how the weapons look in-game. I used to abbreviate greatswords to _GS but got suggested to change it full name, like Nightmare_Greatsword.png. However, I came across you since you already had this used for an icon. Is it possible for you to rename all icons to make the filename suggests it's an icon? Greatsword page. The pictures are to be used by all wiki editors =) (X08 18:44, 11 August 2012 (UTC))

Hey there, X08. Moved your comment down - new sections are usually added to the bottom on talk pages. Anyway, the item name is what the template defaults to for icons, so I think it would be better if the icons kept that name. For the cropped screenshots I've uploaded, I used Preview at the end, like :File:Nightmare Greatsword Preview.png (I just added screenshots for all of the nightmare weapon this morning - I've been moving the various galleries that already existed to the armor pages as they're standardized and updated.) Edit: Apparently, File:<Year> <Month> <short description>.xxx is the appropriate naming convention, so guess I'll be moving things as well. — Rari User Rari sig.png 19:32, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
No, the year/month thing is an artifact of the pre-beta days when it was important to document the timeframe that a certain screenshot came from. That is no longer necessary, and files should not be dated (the MW software tracks when a file was uploaded anyway, so it was never really necessary in any case). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:02, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Is <Name> <Preview> fine then? Because I assume that despite what Endeavor told X08, exact item name should still be used for icons when possible? — Rari User Rari sig.png 20:06, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes. The standard from GuildWiki and (I think) GWW is that the icon should be PNG, while the screenshots are JPG. We used JPG because of the compression, since even at 90% quality it's still smaller than a PNG. I don't know if file size/bandwidth is still a valid concern or not, but I've been completely flabbergasted at everyone uploading PNG screenshots here. It doesn't really matter to me, though.
In any case, we are planning (or at least User:Infinite was) on setting up galleries for both armor and weapons, i.e. we're going to have multiple screenshots of each. So we can probably continue as-is with the icon retaining the base item name, and each screenshot having additional words that define which angle/view of the item it is (see e.g. this GuildWiki armor gallery for an example of how this would be set up). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:13, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Holy dang =) I'll have to reupload ALL greatswords I've been posting at User_talk:X08/greatsword. *sigh* X08 20:17, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Well then, I'll start converting my cropped .png screenshots to .jpg while flag the old ones for deletion. Thanks Ish. — Rari User Rari sig.png 20:22, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
FYI, you can keep the name, since I'll be going for the .jpg files instead. Atleast that's what I got from all this. So to recap the names can coexist while they have different extensions. Yes? X08 20:34, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Don't worry about re-converting everything that's already uploaded as PNG, it's not a super-huge issue right now. We should focus instead on getting all interested parties involved in a discussion so that we can set the standards that will be used on this wiki. Just because the GW1 wikis used JPG doesn't mean we have to, unless we decide that their reasons for doing so are still valid. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:43, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
I converted around 300 of my images in the time it took you to respond, so that part is no big deal. I'm fine with using jpegs; these cropped screenshots aren't particularly large, but when you put 20 together for a gallery I can certainly see where having them as jpeg would be of benefit. — Rari User Rari sig.png 20:52, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Finished cropping all PvP Shields aswell =) and in Jpeg so I think the issue is resolved ;) png for icons, jpg for screens. Gotcha! X08 21:10, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
I had batch cropped mine so they are all the same size, but I need to take a nap. i asked infinite on irc to take a look at this though. — Rari User Rari sig.png 21:15, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
Whilst I must definitely applaud for the capturing and the batch crop, I must question the graphic setting of the game when you took them. They don't look like they've been taken on all-max. Alternatively, I am planning to set the standard for the galleries on all-max (unless images are placeholder), from 4 angles, per piece, in a plain dye combination and a "these bits dye"x3 scheme. That means a lot of high quality images per armor piece, and set. I should start a project for these galleries.... - Infinite - talk 21:26, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
I cannot abide low-res armor images, I think they are a waste of time. My graphics were set to max, with the high-rez character armor ticked on. So I think you may have been viewing the preview images in Dropbox, not full-size. I agree we need a simple 2/3 dye standard for armor though. I used 3 base grey for most of mine (the ones taken during the previous stress test had guardian default colors) and while certainly simple, I do admit you lose a lot of detail information. I was pleased with its lack of visual interference with the weapons at least. It may be worth mentioning that I also found a need to switch to an "up-do" - many of the weapons had clipping issues with hair. — Rari User Rari sig.png 10:55, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Actually the month and date formatting was to span every pre-release image but if the wiki has changed their protocol, whatever's new is fine. I haven't been very active during this hilarious summer. - Infinite - talk 21:26, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Why the clear in the armor infobox?[edit]

I understand that is is usefull to delete the fall back text, because not every item as a ingame description. But why the clear after the infobox. This creates just some unnesseccary whitespace in most caces. - Yandere Talk to me... 11:49, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Any variation (you see this a lot with dungeon and crafted armor) requires stacking infoboxes (like this Corrupted Orrian Masque), and this prevents needing to include the clear manually. Without the clear, they stagger. Also, it keeps the rest of the article from creeping up behind the infobox strangely. — Rari User Rari sig.png 11:57, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I can see that but I think it would be better to add the clear, when it is really needed. Articles like this only have much white space without real inforamtion, without the clear it is much more comfortable to view an smaller resolutions. It is easy to add in some clears if you need them, but it is hard to get rid of them. - Yandere Talk to me... 12:11, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I don't really agree, but I do understand and I'll remove it. — Rari User Rari sig.png 12:13, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I don't agree either. Without the clear, the Nightmare Pauldrons page now looks messy with the article text following directly after the description section. That's the reason we use it in Template:Skill infobox, so that the description is nicely set-off and any notes/etc. don't mash right up against the bottom of the effects list. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:13, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Probably you and I have a diffrent opinion what counts as messy. :P
Anyway, if you two agree that the white space looks better, I will not argue with that, and revoke my opinion on this issue. ^^ - Yandere Talk to me... 13:25, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I just added a comment on Yandere's talk page on this very topic, but maybe this is a better place. How is it messy to not have a clear? If the infobox is supposed to stand alone, we could as well have it left-aligned. The infobox is there to give information at a quick glance, not disrupt the reading of the article, which it does when it's cleared. It's like everything below the infobox is less important if we put a clear, but there we usually have acquisition information which is KIND OF important :P - anja talk 16:25, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Need a little help?[edit]

Hey mate, I wonder if you would like me to help you on the dungeon weapon pages? I am willing to extract screenshots etc. Of course we would have to agree on a certain format, I like yours, but the gallery could be better imao! Currently I am working on the Kodan weapon set! So... well, best regards, and tell me your thoughts soon!--DIVA 13:02, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

I don't follow you - the weapon pages I've constructed do use a gallery. (Edit: All weapon overview pages are up. Feel free to upload over my weapons, though I would ask you not with the armor. I cropped all of my weapons to the same size so they would be consistent in the gallery though, and from what I've seen you didn't do the same. I do like your weapon screens, but that is something you might want to consider.) — Rari User Rari sig.png 13:07, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Noted. I will fix what I have done to the Kodan weapons, as I just noticed you use png for weapon symbols.--DIVA 13:45, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I wasted my time on this. Well done to myself.--DIVA 14:11, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Mine too. ;P But at least it's getting done. Here, this should help. I usually make a temporary list of the files I need to add for a gallery. — Rari User Rari sig.png 14:20, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Nightmare staff and trident[edit]

Hello there, I've noticed you're the user who updated the full Nightmare weapons gallery. I have a question: did the staff and trident screens got mixed up, or do they in fact share the model? Cheers! Sethrea 18:24, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

del-tagging move remnants[edit]

I'll ask the same of you that I did of Wombatt: when tagging move remnants for deletion, please don't remove the #redirect line, just put the tag above it. This lets the sysop who works it see where the move went without having to dig into the page history. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:45, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

np np. I didn't see the note on wombatt's page. I do try to leave the pages intact, just had so many today, not really shocking if i screwed a few up x_x — Rari User Rari sig.png 19:46, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, I saw that you did do this on a lot of them, so just use that as the standard procedure from now on. Thanks. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:47, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Your item gallery thingy[edit]

I created an own Template for this thing, so it will be easier to update the code. During this I stumbeled upon an issue do breathing apparatuses change your ingame appearance? I always thought they don't, at least i dind't relized them. But on the picture in the article it is clearly viseble. Can you clear up my confusion? - Yandere Talk to me... 10:36, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

When you are underwater, the breathing apparatus you have equipped appears (in place of any mask you might normally wear.) From what I have seen (and I checked a few even during ST7) they all share the same appearance and cannot be dyed. — Rari User Rari sig.png 10:40, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
Ah then they have an ingame appearance, but I think the gallery option isn't really nesseccery. Or shall we use alsways the same immage. : P
What do you think? - Yandere Talk to me... 10:43, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
I think it would be fine to use the same image. Many pieces share a skin. So yeah, you should remove that restriction, though it is cool to see how easily a type of item can be removed with your new code structure. — Rari User Rari sig.png 10:50, 16 August 2012 (UTC)

sig image moving[edit]

There's a danger in moving user sig images: you can't update their signature code to reflect the new filename. Which means if they ever come back, post a comment, and sign it, they'll have a big ol' redlink there because the file it used to link to doesn't exist anymore. It's generally better just to leave sig images alone. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:08, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

yeah, i can see that. i did leave a message for each one of the three i moved, but in the future i'll just leave a message. — Rari User Rari sig.png 10:56, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned images[edit]

Hi, I noticed this deletion tag. I don't think orphaned images really need deleting since deletion doesn't free up space (since the file is still available for admins to view and restore). Also, File:Infobox header overlay.png is possibly used in CSS for the infobox design, even though it doesn't appear in WhatLinksHere. Were there other reasons for tagging these? pling User Pling sig.png 17:28, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

I actually just realized that and was updating the talk page comments; I'm going to finish going through my results, but something indicating their use should be put on these pages (instead of the user image tag, which is just confusing.) — Rari User Rari sig.png 17:29, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Edit: these also:
In addition, as for the orphaned pages, well, m'bad. I marked them for regular deletion and left a message on the user's page (there were several) asking them for comment on if they were going to use the pages, since otherwise I would have moved them (I'm trying to standardize the naming as per the formatting page. The .JPG and .PNG files are bad examples.) If that was out of line, I apologize. — Rari User Rari sig.png 17:34, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Don't worry, these are just my opinions, not an admonishment or anything :P. When it comes to orphaned images, my view is we should only delete those that are unnecessary (which incidentally may be harder to define for user images than for mainspace ones).
About .jpg/.JPG - for mainspace images, it probably is better to use jpg for the sake of consistency and ease, but I don't think it's necessary to spend time going through user images to fix them, especially if as a result lots of other pages need updating.
I'll edit the UI file pages to indicate their use. pling User Pling sig.png 17:45, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for updating those pages pling, it makes their use a lot clearer. File:Logo.png and possibly File:Watch icons.png also need your attention though I don't see where that last one is used. As for the user pages with PNG and JPG, you originally commented as I had finished that little project. I figured better to get it over with now and keep on top of it in the future, than later when there would be 3x as many images. Certainly not the most important quest, but it also only took half a day (and didn't require a lot of pages edited overall.) It wasn't a matter of trying to save space more as it was an issue of organization and not wanting to trouble with moving pages that weren't going to be used, user namespace or otherwise. — Rari User Rari sig.png 19:10, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, edited them. The second one is used in the Vector skin for the watch tab (at least I think it is). pling User Pling sig.png 20:52, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Jewel Pages[edit]

Thanks for moving the Exquisite Jewel to Gilded Jewel pages for me, apparently you have to have been active a certain amount of time or done a certain number of edits for the move button to appear? You might have to fix the Gilded Amethyst though, I went ahead and made a new page for it before I noticed you moving all the old ones :( sorry Karen Lionheart 14:47, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, no problem. With how slow the wiki was leading up to the update, figured you could use a hand and I had just finished up a section of what I was working on. Now that the update is done, it was no problem to finish them off. I marked the Exquisite Amethyst Jewel to be merged with the new page you made - moving pages instead of just creating new ones is important to preserve edit history. Hopefully you'll have access to the move button soon! — Rari User Rari sig.png 19:03, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Golden Weapons[edit]

Just asking since I'm starting this - is there some in-game reference to them as Golden Wing? Because as far as I can see from the vendor and vendor's dialogue, they are just called Golden weapons. Since you're the one who originally renamed the page to include 'Wing', I want to be sure. Serbaayuu 03:15, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Names were from beta iirc. 70.199.121.9 04:35, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
