Welcome + interwiki links[edit]

Hiya, you've been here a while, but welcome to the wiki ;)

Per this edit I'd like to recommend that you use interwiki links as detailed at Help:Editing#Interwiki_link - they don't produce the little external link arrow + are pretty easy to use. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:51, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks a lot. I will change the other ones too. :) Qiff 11:52, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Awesome, thanks for doing that. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:55, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Never mind, you were faster. I have a question though. For skills from GW1 we use the "this skill has an article on the GW1 wiki" link. These ascended items, however, refer to people, places, trophies, etc. and do not share any other properties. Does this then become trivia, like I'm assuming now? Qiff 12:01, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Yeah I'd do it as Trivia sections. The box doesn't really provide enough information on why the article is relevant like your text explanations do. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:03, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
I won't do it for all though, some of them explain themselves fine. Qiff 12:05, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
The usefulness of the {{gww}} template has been debated in the past, especially on skill pages, and we've come close to removing it from all skills before, but no one stepped up to make the decision. Personally I find it completely pointless, since most of the skills have very different effects from GW1. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:22, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
So then everything would become Trivia? Because I still like to link as many GW2 articles to relevant GW1 articles. Qiff 14:40, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
If there's an actual connection beyond the reused name, sure. Trivia that explains the connection is much more useful than a box that says "GW1W has an article with the same name." —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:55, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
A while back I went and removed the GW2W corresponding template on GWW from about 200 pages - but only when the skill was unrelated. e.g. Blinding Flash got left alone. I'm not going to do the same on this wiki :P -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:02, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
I'll keep an eye out and remove them whenever I see them, and change relevantly linked skills (~same effect?) to trivia. Qiff 16:45, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

User image[edit]

Hey there! I moved [[:File:User Qiff Qiff.png|your character image]] and your sunrise screenshot to your user space, which is where you will find them. If in future you wish to add more user images, add "User Quiff <file name>.jpg/png" before it to ensure it stays on your user page, and doesn't get added to the main wiki space. I'd advise you to tag the first picture on your page, to avoid losing it; or if you no longer want it, just tag it for deletion and someone'll swoop by to annihilate it. If you have any questions relating to this, feel free to reply either here, or on my talk page. Happy editing! --Ventriloquist 21:21, 2 September 2014 (UTC)

I feel like I should clarify some ambiguities in Vent's phrasing here. To summarize and reiterate his point, the accepted wiki practice is that images uploaded by a user for use only on their userpage should be named File:User <username> <blah blah>.xxx. This informs other editors that the user intended the file for personal use and did not intend it for use on primary wiki articles.
It does not, however, place the file in your userpace, as images are always in the "File" namespace. Your userspace consists of your userpage and any subpages you create underneath it (e.g. User:Dr ishmael, User:Dr ishmael/loot, User:Dr ishmael/feast, etc.). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:33, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
Got it, thanks! Qiff (talk) 16:07, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
Quick question - I'm sort of trying to rid the wiki of unused files and unfortunately, your user image is one of them. Tell me, do you have any future use for this image or can it be freely deleted? If you want to preserve it, just put up a file link somewhere on your page. --Ventriloquist 19:43, 9 September 2014 (UTC)
You can delete that one. I'm sorry, I guess I lost it some time ago and forgot to tag it. Qiff (talk) 08:18, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
No problem, it's easy to lose something in the wiki universe! --Ventriloquist 14:56, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
