Story items[edit]

I just wanted to say thank you for working on those. =) - Doodleplex 19:14, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

It seemed something I could be able to handle, so... why not? :)
Still some items are missing (have to work around some alt toons) and I need to avoid rushing the edits to prevent unnecessary multiple edits to correct stuff later.
Thinking about renaming it (and changing the description) to something along "Personal Story trophies", but must finish filling the data first. --NIN37 19:24, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
Ooo, I think I like Personal Story trophies better than "story items", as it's more clear, but yeah keep collecting data first before anything gets moved. - Doodleplex 19:31, 25 August 2017 (UTC)

Now there's a sight[edit]

So, I pressed the recent changes button one more time before shutting my laptop down, and I see this line:

Story characters‎‎ (8 changes | history) . . (+11,778)‎ . . [NIN37‎ (8×)]

That must be some TLC the page is getting. Enjoy yourself, and thanks for diving in. G R E E N E R 08:08, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, story characters page was a bit chaotic, with incomplete info, assorted entries, lack of proper formatting, and all other minor stuff required to make it some useful page, so there I went and started working on it "a little bit".
It is still far from complete (I really don't want to deal with 'Living World Season 1'), but now it has started to look like some semi-organized page, which could be used as a quick reference for something. --NIN37 08:39, 13 September 2017 (UTC)

"Killing" Gara[edit]

We also kill Eitel the Unlovable in the PS but he shows up in HoT. So I'm not so sure how much hold "we kill him so it's not the same" has. Esp. if the model is the same. Konig (talk) 02:41, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Dunno. "Gara" sounds like a generic name (lack of 'titles' or 'surname' makes it a random guess... Not like "Gara the Mighty" or "Gara Frostwind"). Do they even share the same map & skills? The one from chapter 2 seems to summon Sparks, while the other from chapter 5 seems to lead other grawls (more like a religious leader). Sure, could be the same NPC, but I don't think there are evidences that indicates so. --NIN37 02:54, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

Twice the Bacon[edit]

Just curious about The Great Hunt, you added "Vicious Dire Boar" a second time in the NPC section. Did you mean to include some other kind of porcine there or does it appear twice? - Doodleplex 18:43, 3 October 2017 (UTC)

Ouch! I was under the impression that each "boss" had its own minions (Sire Griffon + Young Griffons; Bull Minotaur + Young Minotaurs; Vicious Boar + ?????), but it seems Mr. Vicious Dire Boar is a lone-wolf... It spawns next to Skelk instead. Gonna fix it (and put the correct name for the Griffon-lings). --NIN37 04:11, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

The Departing on Norn[edit]

Does Issormir not show up? For charr and sylvari, the tutorial boss does. I haven't done norn, human, or asura so I'd be surprised if those bosses don't. Konig (talk) 17:44, 23 October 2017 (UTC)

It does, but I'm not sure it has a nameplate. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:37, 23 October 2017 (UTC)
Just checked the mission again. Issormir does shows up, but has no nameplate (and no dialogue line). But since other races tutorial bosses are listed on the page, I'm gonna add him as well.
Wish we just just skip Balthazar's battle... burning Mr. God of War and Fire once was cool, but doing it again multiple times on multiple characters just to get to the second part of the mission is a bit time consuming... at least we can jump directly into "the departing" story instance without having to redo the whole path of fire storyline again....
Notice: Eir's first appearance also had no nameplate, but that could be due my low-budget computer's configuration (sorry for low quality screenshot - I either use Best Performance to play the game or Best Appearance to take screenshots; can't really play the game under Best Appearance, since it sometimes goes under 1 FPS).

I'm gonna add the rest of the Tutorial's bosses as well. --NIN37 00:05, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

Replacing "you" with "your character"[edit]

As you mentioned here. I don't think it's really worth the effort, tbh. While "the player character" is technically more accurate, it's a clunkier phrasing, and I doubt anyone will be confused if we say "you" instead. --Idris (talk) 08:00, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

Yep, too much trouble, too little improvement. Therefor, I did not change it (just mentioned I would like to do so).
If I ever get in the mood to change it (and make it consistent), I'll try to improve the article (any article), but since that section is already alright the way it is, with clear and impersonal instructions, I'll leave it that way (and I even used same writing style, suggesting the reader/player to be cautious when taking action - instead of suggesting how to make their character how to behave). --NIN37 18:17, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

Changing pics[edit]

Hey, I would appreciate it if you don't overwrite pictures and then write things to purposely irritate/upset other users. There are no filters being used and it was an unnecessary comment. None of us hold any right to have our own pictures JUST BECAUSE(even thought we all want to at one point), we need to use the best ones, and so it's no use uploading over other users if what they have uploaded is already good/great. Thanks for all the good work on Elisa thought, personally I'd refrain from using a whole block as colour, it's easier to see if it's just a ring around the general area, but that's just my opinion in terms of consistency on the wiki as a whole. I've reverted your picture back to my own and I figured we can talk about it here. The reason why is because your image has poor texture quality. Your pic is great otherwise, but if you still want to have your own picture for whatever reason, make sure you have maxed invidia settings and supersample on so it's the best it can be! :) Thanks and have a good day! Eruru (talk) 17:38, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Hey, cool down. I'm not trying to irritate/upset anyone - especially not trying to bother you nor any specific user.
Just pointing out that the in-game image does not have that blurred effect (thus it was edited with external image edit software, a.k.a., "photoshoped" or "[snapshot] filter"). And that phantasmagorical shape on the right side of NPC is weird.
Poor quality image is probably due to my potato-brand on-board video card (not using a high end game box machine due to financial issues). Graphics Options settings is configured to maximum (except for Postprocessing that is disabled), but High-Res Character Texture is grayed out, because my Graphics Processing Unit does not support it.
I could have simply added up some {{image request|Clean image without PC or NPC near subject.}} tag and wait until someone else, with a better computer could take their time to upload it, but, instead, I preferred to move my character to that spot, wait until other players got away from screenshot area, take the screenshot myself, make sure NPC is not blinking and is looking towards the correct direction, check to see if there isn't any weird subject on the background or foreground, crop the picture, convert to JPG and upload to the wiki, because it would be faster (think you would do the same).
If a picture is already nice, I won't overwrite it (just how I didn't uploaded a new version of Elisa (Vulture Drifts) - even though that circle is an ellipse; and didn't replace/reverted Blackice's submission - static NPC that do not turn around when F interacted to are annoying to take pictures from... mainly when they have shiny backgrounds with moving particles or are placed on irregular ground or close to ledges/walls).
Feel free to take another screenshot (without other players appearing in the background) and re-upload it. I promise I won't touch Elisa's picture this week anymore. :)
As a matter of fact, I didn't see your revert before uploading my latest screenshot (hence, second upload was concerning first one, which ended up with a slightly modified model, with no weapons).
Concerning NPC location pictures, I've decided to use the Area map instead of M map "screenshot around the area of interest" because it would be easier to make it consistent ("Should I put this WP in the screenshot?", "Will this undiscovered PoI make this picture less accurate?", "Does this nearby orange circle around that event draw too much attention from the area I'm trying to point out?", "Can I prevent this personal story green star from showing up?"). A bigger picture showing where to look at is easier to figure out (NW of the map) than a very detailed picture with no point of reference (behind a big generic looking tree, close to these fancy looking stones).
Earlier, I though those location pictures could become better if we edited them to have both "overview area" (like they're now) with some "detailed view" picture over-placed (dunno, maybe draw a little rectangle to show where NPC is and have a "detailed/zoomed" picture showing that rectangle area?), but discarded this idea because it would consume too much time - and Elisa just changes location every single week, so not really worth all that effort at all.
Anyways, we are all players who contribute to the wiki out of free will, just because we like the game and want to improve the wiki (since it's a very useful tool for both new players and veterans). We should just take our time and enjoy the game and the wiki. ;) --NIN37 19:12, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
Cool down? Please stop. I didn't think you where attacking anybody in particular, but clearly you meant something with your tags thus I decided to reply. From my understanding, this doesn't matter(the blurring). For example, editing is used a lot of placed as long as it's generally true to the ingame image. A lot of the people who run the wiki do it too when it's needed. For example, nobody is going to get mad at you for removing the background if you uploaded a NPC or armour even thought this is still editing, or if you sharpen an image to clearly make out something or add colour because the time of the day was a bit off, as long as it's within reason. Nobody gets mad at all really. Your pictures are helpful and shows what they need to show. I don't need to take another picture, I think if anybody should do anything it would maybe be removing her background all together in similar fashion to the GW1 wiki because I don't really think that there is any more ways we can take pictures of the same NPC before it turns into what it's now with just overwriting. Sorry if my comment bothered you, but I figured we could talk here because nobody likes a revert-war. Been there done that. Eruru (talk) 22:00, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
