I'm doing the same as everyone currently, waiting for more information on Guild wars 2, as well as playing guild wars.

My main worry for guild wars 2 is level grind, preferably time to "almost maximum statistics" should be about as short or shorter than original guild wars.

For those curious, Tambora is a volcano that blew up around 1815.

Joke Professions[edit]

This is me fooling around with what the professions will be for guild wars 2.

Touch Ranger[edit]

250 years ago, travellers between Tyria and Cantha told stories of this new, powerful, combatant, combining the draining powers of necromancers with the survival abilities of the rangers. This combination was at first assumed to be a simple fairy tale or drunkens story, but the battle of aspenwood quickly revealed the truth of these legends. Soon, touch rangers became a well known, and were the target of angry protests, and lots of hatred by other adventurers of the world. However, as the charr once again pushed into ascalon, the desperate defenders let their prejudices fall and allowed touch rangers to assist their army at killing charr leaders and other important members of the charr legions. Their success was not to last, however, as the charr quickly learned the techniques themselves, and also learned to slow down and net the touch rangers in place, heavily dimishing their effectiveness.

Today, the touch ranger is an important part of armies of all races with them, and many Norn hunters, Asura, and Sylvari have learned the techniques. Touch rangers are still well known for their ability to walk through battle, pick a target, and quickly drain their health. The techniques have advanced far beyond the standard methods of 250 years ago.

Skill groups:

  • Draining: These skills are used by touch rangers to steal the life force of their enemies.
  • Survival: these abilities are used to move quickly around the battlefield, avoid attacks, and otherwise allow touch rangers to survive attacks and reach their targets.

Invincimonk[edit]

Monks have a long and respected history in all parts of the world. Although other types of fighters do the work of killing and destruction, it is the monks that allowed the other professions to perform their duties without dying, and preparing them for the battles yet to come. Monks outside of warfare assist with curing diseases, healing wounds, and other such protective roles.

However, in the events of 250 years ago, tactics had evolved to the point of targetting monks before other members of an army, and monks often found themselves fleeing or moving around the battlefield to survive, rather than supporting their comrades. The eventual solution to this problem started among a group of mercenary monks, who would travel into the dangerous world on their own, use protective skills and blessings to survive, and use their smiting abilities to kill off their enemies. Although others quickly learned tactics for killing these "invincimonks", others began ot refine the techniques, and over time these adventurers became more capable and survivable.

Now, 250 years later, no monk is trained without learning these survival techniques. These monks can still assist their comrades in battle, but are much tougher and difficult to kill than the monks of old.

Skill groups:

  • 55ing: invincimonks skilled at 55ing reduce their life force to a sliver of what it normally is, and use their protective abilities to preserve this life force to allow their healing abilities to quickly replenish it.
  • 600ing: This set of skills allows monks to enhance their life force, and use blessings ot preserve it as effectively as possible.
  • Smiting: these skills allow invincimonks to damage enemies.

Wammo[edit]

250 years ago, as the races of Tyria began to train their warriors in two professions, many trained as a warrior with monk side training. Many who followed this "warrior/monk" combination were known to be poor combatants, being overly aggressive and breaking formations while charging into large groups of enemies, giving a poor reputation to the more skilled practitioners of this combination. the name "wammo" was originally given by ascalonian warriors describing charr practicing this combination, who would try to use their large size to charge into ascalonian battle lines, machinery, or walls, creating the stereotypical "wam" sound.

The overall concept, however, was sound, and over the next few hundred years the combination was improved to be considered a separate profession from the standard warrior. Those trained as wammos learned to fight with weapons and heal themselves at the same time, creating durable front line fighters and single combatants.

Skill groups

  • Healing: These skills allow the wammo to heal themselves in combat.
  • Aggression: Damage dealing skills. The old "frenzy" tactics of wammos have been replaced by more powerful tactics that do not leave the wammo open to damage.

Ursan[edit]

When contact was first made with the Norn during the destroyer wars, small groups of humans learned to bless themselves with a number of norn animal spirit powers. The Wolf, raven, and Bear were all used by travellers in the northern lands to fight the destroyers, and foes in other lands. The bear proved the strongest, and soon stories spread among the races of power human powers with unmatched strength, stamina, and fighting prowess. Such warriors easily vanquished all they saw, from remnants of Abaddon's demons, to destroyers, to thugs and bandits. Soon, large numbers of humans, and later char, asura, tengu, and other races began traveling to the Norn bear shrines ot receive the blessings.

However, the bear spirit's power is not infinite, and while the first humans to use its power were unmatched in fighting ability, as more and more began to use bear's power, their abilities became diluted, and reduced to being no more powerful than other types of fighters. While those blessed by bear's blessing were still powerful close combat fighters, and the Norn themselves were still able to change into bears with as much effect as before, those using the ursan blessing were no more powerful than other types of close in fighters were.

Those blessed by bear soon began to find new abilities usable with the blessing, and Ursan fighters now have as much a variation in fighting style as any other type of warrior in the world.

Skill groups

  • Paw skills: These strikes are used ot damage or incapacitate foes.
  • Roars: the bears of the world of loud, powerful roars, and those blessed by these roars can perform a wide range of tasks, from damaging and incapacitating foes, to assisting allies.
  • Strength abilities: The bear is the totem of strength for the norn, and ursan warriors can use this power to perform amazing feats.
