The Shiverpeaks is a vast mountain range spanning the entire continent of Tyria, running north to south and dividing it in two. The range itself is divided into three parts; the Far Shiverpeaks, the Northern Shiverpeaks, and the Southern Shiverpeaks. To the east of the mountains lay the once bountiful human kingdom of Ascalon and the Charr Homelands, while to the west is the tropical lands of Kryta and the Maguuma Jungle. The Blazeridge Mountains branch off from the southern end and stretch east, seperating the still smoldering remains of Ascalon from the lush and green Crystal Desert to the south.

They have long been the home of the stout Dwarves, who used to live both among the ridges and steppes as well as underground in the vast Depths of Tyria. After the battle with the Great Destroyer that transformed the majority of them into living stone, their grand civilization dispersed to live solitary lives in the deep places of the continent. Meanwhile, the tenacious Norn who used to dwell in the Far Shiverpeaks were driven south by the awakening of the dragons, in particular the one of Drakkar Lake.

Now they do battle with the Dredge, who were similarly forced from their home beneath the mountains by the dragons. Humans from Ascalon have also taken up residence in the Southern Shiverpeaks as Charr from the north pushed even further into their homeland, forcing them to contend with the embattled Norn and Dredge.

[edit] Landscape

With soaring peaks reaching high into the heavens, the ice of the Shiverpeaks never melts, and it snows year round. Because the majority of the lakes and rivers in and around the mountains are frozen most of the time, conventional ships find it impossible to traverse them, though the Dwarven Sled Ships can pass over them with ease. Winding passes, sluggish glaciers, frozen forests, and snow fallen hills make up the majority of the terrain between the mountain peaks, and is most likely where any life can be encountered.
