Talk:Shattered Observatory Fractal

Let's not talk about "suggested professions" on the official wiki. Acting like elitists in the official wiki might cause people to leave the game, plus you guys may have narrow-minded opinions / be meta-sheep and not consider every possibility. The preceding unsigned comment was added by RubberDougie (talk) at 18:41, 2 August 2017 (UTC).

Although I agree that the way 'suggested professions' was formatted is nowhere near ideal, calling editors narrow-minded or meta-sheep doesn't get you very far fast. I think a better option would be to take the previous paragraph and turn it into "What each class can bring". -Darqam 19:38, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Day Fractal[edit]

It seems to be a day fractal, but my Ascalonian Scepter is glowing, probably Lore Reasons (twisted time or something). Should this be listed as Anomaly? Lacrisma.1540 (talk) 21:02, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

I was the editor who listed it as a day fractal; I did so because my AC weapon failed to glow when I checked. I've just gone and checked again, on a sylvari -- neither she nor the weapon are glowing. I even checked during the night phase of the world day-night cycle just in case, but nope, definitely no glow. However, I'm only checking from the entrance; it's possible that it switches to night once you reach the space areas? --Idris (talk) 21:52, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
I believe it goes nighttime once CM activates. It's probably also nighttime in the space area. I think it still classifies as daytime mechanically though. Not sure:/--Rain Spell (talk) 22:23, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
The Mistlock Sanctuary, which uses the same effects and art assets as the space regions of this fractal, is set to day, so that's a precedent. I'm also not sure if it's possible for them to have regions of an instance be in different day/night states -- my impression is that the entire instance is flagged to either day or night, and the state of the sky doesn't necessarily reflect which state is flagged. Might be worth checking, though. --Idris (talk) 22:42, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
A guildmate tested the day/ night food in CM. Turns out CM is indeed a night fractal while normal mode is a day fractal. Also I'm unable to find a good phrasing to edit this in under Trivia. Lacrisma.1540 (talk) 17:54, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
Thank you (and your guildmate) for the research! Your note is fine, though it should be in Notes, not Trivia, as it's potentially important information for people who want to use day/night foods. :) --Idris (talk) 19:19, 25 August 2017 (UTC)
Looks like I'm coming back to this on a daily basis. I did some tests myself, two different Day/ Night foods. Turns out: It's both. Day& Night fractal. With the Might or Chill food I got might and chilled the boss. With the Burning or Life Steal food I caused burning and got lifesteal. This fractal is a mess. We're currently calculating the comparsion between Force&Night and Force&Serpent sigils. Skorvald was the boss I/ we did the tests on. Meta geared Ele, Water/Arcane/Tempest without selecting traits, full infusions, Sweet& Spicy Butternut Squash Soup. Idk what to edit in Lacrisma.1540 (talk) 13:37, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
Oh, that's weird. How do sylvari/AC weapons behave in there? That might be a more consistent way of checking, since might/chilled/lifesteal/etc can come from other sources and might make things confusing. --Idris (talk) 13:52, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
There is no way for might/chill/lifesteal/burning to come from other sources in the tests I did, did some tests without Day/Night food for the Night Sigil as well without any of those effects. Ascalon Weapons do glow when you (re)enter the fractal after CM has been activated. So far it seems that Night sigil doesn't increase DPS, indicating that it's not a night fractal. I'll do some more tests to see if day/night are just changing constantly. Lacrisma.1540 (talk) 14:44, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
I just registered to wiki just to edit that Night Sigil does not work on CM Skorvald. I tested with warrior and guildmate with ele.
I'll edit in that it keeps changing from day to night constantly, based on the food, and keep the night sigil note. Didn't seem to work for us either. Lacrisma.1540 (talk) 10:14, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
I also ran some tests with ranger crossfire and it indeed doesn't seem to works. JasonLucas.4981 (talk) 23:56, 25 November 2019 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I'm gonna test this more later, but now that we have listed in game time to use it's a good idea to check from that as well. Looks like the start of the zone switched to 5:00 AM Tyrian time with CM on and doesn't change. Will have to test in other parts. Dak393 (talk) 08:51, 26 April 2023 (UTC)

Rewards[edit]

I added the contents of the newly added daily reward chests for Skorvald and Viirastra. It seems to be the exact same chest as the one in the Uncategorized fractal after the champion Bunny etc. That one does not have a reward segment (it might not be that interesting either), but I added it here since there was a reward section anyway. Should there be any notice of these rewards under the bosses' own pages? Another thing: every now and then I've also seen Trivia notes on when things had been added. Would this be worth mentioning? It was added in the August 8th patch, last Tuesday.

P.S. I was honestly hoping for something a little bit more interesting when I read the patch note, but sure, some champ bags is something at least. --Zkarts (talk) 22:28, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

I think we should record the rewards on this article, though there's no harm in leaving a note on the NPC articles too. If the Uncategorized fractal is missing rewards, it isn't because they're uninteresting -- it just means nobody's thought to add them yet! And by all means, add a trivia note if you like. It helps people keep track of additions and changes if they've been away from the game for a while. --Idris (talk) 22:54, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

Why there are no informations about the third portal that can be opened and visited?

Feedback 2017/08/21[edit]

"Falling will kill you if you are not able to jump back in time" - Wrong or badly phrased, as the fall teleports you above the fight (after a while of falling) and you can jump onto the platform again with the special action key and continue to fight. Not that easy to pull off (the timing can be hard as too early usually means that the platform you are moving to also vanishes the moment you arrive and too late is indeed a death sentence) and still a very probable wipe if you have the bomb on you, but if not then you just miss ~10sec of the fight

"Orb fixation is random", it isn't. The Orb targets the nearest player available. Capable groups have started assigning waypoints to let every player catch exactly one orb (a player can also recieve 2 orbs if bad movement of other players) and then rotate in an agreed upon direction (usually clockwise). The preceding unsigned comment was added by 95.222.25.40 (talk).

Thanks for your feedback! I wrote the falling line because if you miss the jump back on the platform and fall twice in a row, you become defeated and are transported directly under Aark. If you feel there's an easier way to phrase that into the paragraph, I encourage you to write it in! I couldn't (and still can't) think of a concise way to say it. And thanks for the information on the orb fixation! I've been pugging my runs, so it always appeared to be RNG to me. I'll see where I can write that in. --Rain Spell (talk) 04:37, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
Edit: And fixed. Thanks for pointing that out!--Rain Spell (talk)
You are defeated if you fall twice or get hit by one of his deadly attacks in the air. --Voidvector (talk) 16:11, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Rewards for 100CM[edit]

Hey everyone, I just did my 100CM daily and I was one of the lucky persons to only get 1 cosmic essence from Arkk. But, after checking my inventory, I realised that I had 4 essences in my inventory. I scrolled through my chat and, indeed, I only got 1 from Arkk. A little further up though, I saw that I got 3 more somewhere... My guess is that it was from Artsariiv, but I'm not 100% sure. Any info? 84.184.184.127 18:52, 31 August 2017 (UTC)

You cannot do the Live Wire achievement after the boss is done. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 47.158.147.181 (talk) at 06:19, 25 March 2018 (UTC).

Diaphonous vs Diaphanous[edit]

I see "Diaphonous" Shielding, and "Diaphanous" Diffraction Randomizer (which is actually spelled "Diaphonous" on the ArenaNet Soundcloud). Is this a typo in the wiki or in the game? (Or is the different spelling intentional?)—Karob • 17:56, 5 May 2018 (UTC)
