Shatter[ing][edit]

Should this page be renamed "Shatter"? The thief's mechanic page is "Steal". Plus, it's kind of awkward to have the name of a page be in this tense. --72.194.109.166 21:49, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

i think so. --Moto Saxon 21:50, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
actually no. it is called shattering on the official post. --Moto Saxon 21:52, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
On the thief page, it says "stealing". However, the skill is called "steal" and the wiki page is also "steal". I think the action form "(to) shatter/steal" should take priority over the progressive "-ing" tense, at least for a wiki page. --Gandlethorpe 21:59, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
Not true at all. Compared to other mechanics, only thieves' is called 'steal', while the others are all nouns. The reason why 'steal' is called 'steal' is because the skill name itself is 'steal'. There's simply no skill called 'shatter' so I vote for a moving back. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 22:34, 14 December 2011 (UTC)
And the first sentence on steal page is 'Stealing is a ...'. So I think we should modify template: skill types nav other than this. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 22:36, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

While none of the shatter skills actually have "shatter" in their name, that's what they do. I'm sure in the descriptions, they'll say "shatter all your illusions" somewhere. Maybe "Shatter skill/spell" would be the best? We have "Burst skill" and "Conjure spell" for the ones that don't sound right as just one word. --Gandlethorpe 00:12, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

I think 'Shatter Skills' is ok. But 'Shatter' is not appropriate since it's a verb. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 19:52, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Now that we have a skill that references shatters, Signet of Illusions, which says "Recharge your Shatter skills", can we settle with "Shatter skill"? --Gandlethorpe 21:58, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm tagging this page for moving - the precedent is that skill types are always located at the skill type name. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:04, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
I vote 'Shatters'. I agree with 'Shatter', however as there are several it would be 'Shatters' (similar to 'Attunements' etc). And for those discussing nouns verse verbs, this would in fact be a 'verbal noun' I believe. English linguists feel free to debate, heh. Folktalesin 09:50, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Article names should be singular, so "Shatter". I'm going to be going through the wiki and taking care of a number of moves tonight, including this one. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:54, 28 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank-you Doctor. Well implemented! Folktalesin 09:08, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Same Difference?[edit]

Is killing a illusion the same as shattering it? Looked at the Mesmer trait page and there are quite a few that mention "when an illusion is killed X effect happens." There any clarification here? BlakDoxa 21:51, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

  • We don't know. It could be that illusions are considered killed when they shatter, or it could be that illusions are only killed when they die to an opponent's attack.Strill 10:30, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Shatter effectiveness[edit]

Is Mind Wrack the only Shatter that gets more powerful the more Illusions the Mesmer shatters? Because the other Shatter skills only have one level of effect listed. Edit: I found evidence on Illusionary Persona Notes that Cry of Frustration increases in effectiveness with the number of Illusions shattered. I haven't played Mesmer for a few Beta Weekends so I don't have the data, could someone update them? SethreaUser Sethrea sig.png 09:08, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Confusion stacks in effectiveness and Daze stacks in length. The effect doesn't increase, but just gets applied once for every clone that is shattered. Distortion explicitly states that it is per illusion shattered. I don't really know why Mind Wrack has separate damage listed. Level 1 and 2 is simply a multiple, perhaps the point is that the damage caps at 510 instead of getting 3*244. I don't know how it behaves with 4 illusions, i.e. with Illusionary Persona. Shatner Finishers[edit]

Apparently these are NOT blast finishers. I tested with a staff mez and Feedback vs. the Target Golems in Heart of the Mists. They do not cause Chaos Armor, even though I'd have expected (via the fact that they're explodythings) that they would. Is this worth noting, even though the skill descriptions clearly DON'T say Blast Finisher? 50.196.48.211 23:02, 7 March 2014 (UTC)

Feedback 2021/03/14[edit]

Chronomancer's Shatter skills can be cast without any clones and occur on the caster's position. The article claims otherwise.

Fixed it. Warming Hearth (talk) 23:04, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
