Norn characters who chose "Lost an Heirloom" during character creation (Romke's Horn)[edit]

If you are a norn character who had to do this personal story quest (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Rumors_of_Trouble), will this particular mission be any different? (such as NPCs like Romke speaking differently to you, etc.)

Yes. Cutscenes won't be any different, but if you talk to Romke after first meeting him you can tell him you're his descendant and his dialogue with you will be slightly different, even asking about the horn and such. A very nice touch!76.114.241.14 17:32, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Walkthrough change[edit]

I just did this mission, and changed the walkthrough section a bit as my experience was VERY different from what the wiki suggested. (Due to build changes?) The spawns that are on the beach as you arrive never charged at me, and Romke and his crew tanked the catapults very well (never being below 95% hp). Feel free to revert changes if my experience was a one-off or a bug, but if it wasn't then the wiki was very misleading compared to the actually in-game experience atm. I might rewrite it again to reflect what I thought occurred during the mission.
I do have one question regarding the level given for the foes - I'm not seeing any level indicators during any of my person story missions in the HUD... can the level be calculated from the XP given? I have the XP awarded screenshotted though not the name of the foes (I was using a +50% xp booster for most of the mission, and I'm level 80 but scaled down to 70)
Section XP awarded
Cave (moving to the beach) 476 (x30), 483 (x17), 626 (x1 - Rezzing one of the crew), 965 (x1 - Veteran Risen Knight)
Beach (stationary foes not really associated with the mission) 483 (x5), 2667 (x1 - wtf? Oh this seems to be awarded for achieving the objective to get to the beach level 80 map area uncovered)
Beach (waves after bone ship arrival cutscene) 483 (x14)
Beach (waves after bone ship destruction cutscene) 483 (x2), 626 (x3 - rezzed 3 of the crew), 326 (x3 - I think the XP booster ran out here - these are same foe level as the 483s)
Sea (Defeating the Risen versions of Romke's crew) 326 (x3 - Hauke, Yfke, Sjoerd), 652 (x1 - Romke)
Total killed (mission direct path only) 476 (x30), 483 (x44), 965 (x2 - Vet. Knight, Risen Romke), 2667 (x1 - no idea)

Mobs are set to the level of the related personal story. If you're doing level 20, they're all 20. If you're doing 80, they're all 80. It's not visible or indicated in any way, but their health and damage scales to the level of the personal story; this was changed with the New Player Experience. —Ventriloquist 21:30, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
That would make sense, especially with the "Several steps will now be unlocked at once as chapters on specific levels, preventing the need to level up between each story step" bit to have foes the same level as the character. However I'm not sure they are all exactly the same level though - surely they would all (excluding Veterans) award the same XP if that were true. I'll kill a few foes in other regions and try to find an equation for XP given per foe... -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:38, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Exp in this game works a bit wonky - mainly to prevent grinding on mobs, I assume. The longer a creature is alive (in the open world), the more exp it gives; it's referred to as a "bonus". You can kill a moa that just spawned for 100 exp, or a moa that no one killed for days and get 900 exp. Experience#Mechanics somewhat explains it, although you're right about higher ranks giving more exp, obviously. —Ventriloquist 22:42, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Outside of the PS foes get two separate packets of XP, the main bit and the exploration bit (not killed in x days). These were all one packet. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:56, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Ah, I see! Well I know that experience is affected by various factors, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to look into it. I don't think experience is dependent so much on numbers, as it is on the actual total experience. Most of the stuff you do give you a percentage of your total, so it will vary from level to level. —Ventriloquist 23:35, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
I read Experience again. If my second interpretation is correct, then "0.125% of the foe's level" apparently means the xp for the foe to level (e.g. 254000) instead of the actual level (e.g. 80). >.>
If X * (0.125/100) = 326, then X = 260800 XP to level... which is some level > 80, possibly 81. Likewise, the other data point yields 253864, or level 79/80. derp. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:04, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

New walkthrough[edit]

So basically I messed up and auto-ran out of the instance while I was documenting dialogue, which lead me to some new instructions:

  • Run past everything in the tunnel (preferably over the top of it)
  • Trigger beach siege, then go hide in the water or do something away from the beach. (npcs are immune to the poison from the risen trebuchets)
  • Once the siege timer expires go back and cleanup any risen close to Romke.
  • Go kill undead explorers to finish.
