Corklike's research

To the editors on wiki: I am sorry about this, im new to all of this and i know its all in the wrong format... including this note... but its certainly better data than what you had before i got here-----

This information was gathered exclusively from the mystic forge in the heart of the mists.

Just a little bit of informantion on the mystic forge from someone who had two full pvp armor sets in BWE3... when you salvage pvp gear that you dont want, it is turned into tokens, and components like arcane shards, arcane crystals and glimmering dust.

The tokens all have different levels i.e. rabbit/deer/tournament/ etc. and generally the higher the lvl of the token, the cooler the item forged.

To make an item you need an item token (available from the glory vendor) a token (rabbit token/deer token etc) some glimmering dust, and an arcane crystal/arcane orb/ arcane sliver etc... The arcane orb/sliver/crystal also ascend in power in that order.. The power of the token and the arcane element determine the rarity of the item.

Certain items have specific recipes while other recipes will point to no specific item and so will yield a random reward (but still the same result as the item token used..) e.g. A random heavy armor chest piece, when a heavy chest token is used.

The salvage kits cost 100 glory at the glory vendor, and the "recipe" tokens cost 200 glory each and are of course consumed during production.

Try to keep track of what you are putting in it when you use it, and what the result is. write it down. then try the same combo again and see if you get the same item. when you learn a recipe for a piece, feel free to post it here and share our results :D

Results of order change and duplicate items

I just crafted 9 malign crude foci and 3 healing scepters for this test:
focus + focus + focus + scepter = ooOoo trident
focus + focus + focus + scepter = Windblessed Longbow
scepter + focus + focus + focus = Vital Bow --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.230.85.17 (talk).

This is hardly a large enough sample to learn anything about the order change or duplicate item mechanics. Additionally, since the first two (with the same order) produced different items, it is not unexpected for the third trial to produce a different item than the first two trials. Perhaps this section should be consolidated with another list of item combination research. DigitalScience 17:47, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

The comment was from September 1, we already know the results are random. Avoid commenting in old sections.--Relyk 17:59, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Observations

My assorted observations on the Mystic Forge so far:

  • You can mix weapons, armor, and jewelry as long as it's all the same rarity
    • The number of each type has no apparent bearing on the type of output. 3 weapons and an armor will just as often result in an armor, and 3 armors and a weapon will just as often result in a weapon. Even 4 armors can result in a weapon.
    • Putting in all the same weapon type or armor type does not guarantee the same weapon/armor type result. e.g. 4 medium headgears can become heavy boots. Or a hammer. Why a hammer? I don't know.
    • Usually the output is the same rarity as the input, but rarely it can go one step up (4 whites can become a blue, 4 blues can become a green, 4 greens can become a yellow. I've never seen 4 yellows become an orange, but I haven't put many yellows in)
    • The level requirement of the end product is (at least generally) higher than the average level requirement of the ingredients
    • The mystic forge cares not what you can use, either in terms of item types or meeting level requirements, with what it'll take or what it gives you. It will happily take 4 level 50 rifles and spit out a level 57 scepter as a level 45 ranger.
  • The crafting materials recipes from the earlier section still appear to be good.
    • Oddly, the next level (tier 3 to tier 4) also uses radiant dust rather than moving up to luminous dust
  • There's no difference whatsoever between the Mystic Forge in the Heart of the Mists vs the one in Lion's Arch.

I have only done a handful of of transmutations, but so far when I have put in four of a kind, I've gotten the same kind out. I define "four of a kind" as four of the same weapon type or armor slot that have the same rarity. For example, I put in four white heavy leg armor pieces and got a white heavy leg armor with better stats in return. I put in four white greatswords and got a blue greatsword. I put in four white light gloves and got white light gloves with better stats. I put in four blue heavy chest armor and got a blue heavy chest armor with better stats. I put in four medium white chest armors and got one blue chest armor.
  • When you select an item, the forge greys out all items that don't share that rarity; if you override the greying out and mix rarities anyway, the forge will not allow you to combine them, at least that I have observed.
  • The items you are born with and/or items that cost only 1 cp do not seem to be valid.
  • Soulbound items can be created. This is annoying if your character cannot use the result. If you're combining four of a kind, do it with a character that can use them.
  • I put in four blue daggers and got a blue "Razor Sharp Dagger" with +11 Power, was soulbound and had the comment "'Careful, very sharp!'-Bordekka". It's apparently similar but not identical to the blue version of the Razor Sharp Dagger sold by Sentry-skritt_Bordekka. --Triplehammer 12:16, 3 September 2012 (UTC)
Not sure if this is of interest, but after transmuting ~7500 tier 1 fine crafting materials, the fewest I ever received from a single transmutation was 8, and the most was 40. I wish I could say what the total output was, but I didn't manage to keep track of it. If I had to guess, I'd say the average was 15-20. I'll be sure to write down the exact figures next time. - BJ 07:23, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
-- How many did you put into the forge at once that would yield 15-20?
  • I've tried transmuting silk into gossamer, using the recipe shown on this page (250 silk, 1 gossamer, 5 dust, 5 stones). However, the page says I should get ~140 gossamer, but I only got between 17 and 27 each time (tried it 5 times). Seems it's a missprint and should be 10-40 and not ~140 !. -Daedalron 18:41, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

I used the formula on the page to transmute Green Wood Logs into Soft Wood Logs (250 green wood logs, 1 soft wood log, 5 shimmering dust, 1 philosopher stone) and got 77 soft wood logs.--92.12.46.209 15:57, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

mystic weapon recipe

Uh, does that recipe produce an exotic pearl weapon (the ones you can craft), any other exotic weapon that is NOT craftable or randomly one of both options? 93.228.117.158 12:30, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Using 2 rare scapters and 2 rare foci I received the mystic one-handed sword Twin Sisters. I dunno whether that is craftable.

Fixed recipes research

A post was started on reddit concerning fixed recipes for the Mystic Forge and their results, a lot of information there:

Armor Box/Satchel

I'm a bit confused at the wording here. If I put in the 3 required items and one piece of cultural armor, will that spawn a full set of that cultural armor? Or does it merely unlock a recipe to craft a high-end armor (albeit not unique)? Or is the armor set randomized? Has anyone used that recipe, and can you tell me how it works? No one in-game was of any help. --Kristofferus 16:59, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Second this. The sentence makes no sense and the recipe also needs more explanation. The same applies to the section about food feasts. At least it should be described what these are. 79.244.52.53 17:28, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

recipe template

I think we need a separate recipe template for mystic forge recipes. First, they don't fall under any crafting discipline, so the discipline and level parameters of the main recipe template don't make any sense; second, the "general" recipes shown here have generic names and generic ingredients that don't need to be automatically linked. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:25, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

I would agree something should be done. I think that we should instead improve the existing recipe template to account for the mystic forge. We could also just put everything categories and create a Template:STDT This will solve the long scrolling issue. Anzenketh 05:09, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
I almost got to getting it to work with the original template see User:Anzenketh/Sandbox/Templates:templatecreate Anzenketh 16:30, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
Template has been moved out of the sandbox and is now complete see {{mystic}} Anzenketh 12:53, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
I ran a few tests here with the draconic boxes recipes, i found that the ingredients for the mystic forge to acquire the recipe for the boxes greyed out 2 of the 4 chest pieces i was trying for some reason. i put in the Cleric draconic chest piece and it worked also the carrion worked but the rampagers and berserkers didnt work. I dont know if anybody else has had results with the rampager's and berserker's. Skittskatt 11:51, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Placement of recipes

I think that the recipes should be moved on their own page or put in categories then group together on separate pages. I think their will as time goes on be a lot of recipes. Another option is that we can do a table see Talk:Mystic_Forge#recipe_template Anzenketh 05:14, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Rare material promotion

Someone on reddit found the recipe for rare materials promotion:

2 Core + 1 Crystal + 1 Wine + 1 Crystal Dust = Lodestone

I have not verified it myself, but I suspect this would work for lower tiers too, can anyone confirm? --Tahj 17:25, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

I would sincerely hope it's different for the lower tiers since each wine costs 24 silver and that's just not economical --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 15:54, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
I tested it just now, and it uses lower tier dust, but the same number of crystals and wine. Unless they lower the price of wine, it's not economical. 2 Crystal Shards +1 Crystal + 1 wine + 1 Incandescent Dust = 1 Crystal Core --Misterducky 22:46, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Common Crafting Material Recipe

I'd like to point out the recipe is correct. The outcome is not. I did this 5 times. 250 soft wood -> 140 seasoned wood. Spot on, right? 250 mithril ore -> 20 orichalcum ore 250 linen scraps -> 16 gossamer scraps 250 linen scraps -> 17 gossamer scraps 250 mithril ore -> 18 orichalcum ore

Tier 6 is obviously different, that or the tiers in general are. I wanted to point this out before someone does what I did, and believes they can make 4g from a simple mystic forge trick and instead loses 30s.

I got 30 Gossamer from a roll of 250 silk... so it CAN pay off if you buy low sell high. But yeah, Teir 6 is very much a gamble and there's a good chance you'll get less than 20 in a bad roll. --ilrUser ilr deprav.png 22:00, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Had 37 in one roll. Here are my rolls with silk scraps to gossamer: 1: 17 2: 25 3: 37 4: 12 5: 15 6: 18 7: 12 8. 10 9. 11 10. 32 --79.181.141.135 13:42, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

I had 250 mithril ore -> 11 orichalcum. Let's stop the revert war and admit that the current formula is obviously wrong. The outcome is tiered, as was probably suspected from the beginning. The recipe is still the same though (250 mithril, 1 orichalcum, 5 philosopher's, 5 crystalline dust), though the amount you get out is tiered. I'm editing this so that more people don't waste money expecting 100-150 tier 6 mats. --Starfleck 16:38, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

... of Rage weapons?

I have seen a lot of "... of Rage" weapons at the trading post. Are these the weapons mentioned here as "Mystic Weapons"? Because in their description it says they can be used to craft a legendary weapon. Or are these "Mystic Weapons" here at the wiki different? I don't want to craft wrong stuff that can't be used to create a legendary. And at trading post I did not see stuff like "Mystic ..." with a description that it could be used for a legendary weapon. - lordmd 11:31, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

And at Mystic_Forge#Legendary_Weapons we say that it is still unknown which ingredients we use? But the weapons say it in their description, the gifts too, right? I think maybe the weapon and the 2 gifts that have it in their description that they can be used for a specific weapon. Then that other thing that apparently is crafted with Bloodstone Shard, WvW badges and other stuff? They probably want to ensure you need to play every part of the game a lot. That's why WvW and the world completion. And then the other gifts that require crafting and maybe stuff from dungeons. But will probably take some time to try this out until someone has farmed enough. - lordmd 11:42, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
As far as we know Mystic weapons and "of Rage" precursors are different series of weapons and nothing is known about how, or if it is even possible, to reliably craft them. The only source for precursors reported by played are random generated loots and/or random mystic forge operation (4 weapons combined). --Tahj 12:28, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
Okay. Thanks for the information. So the Mystic Weapons are useless? Or are they much better than the stuff you can craft? Probably not worth it to waste the skill points for eldritch scroll if you can craft exotic just the usual way with the recipes you buy from karma at your master crafter, right? The "of Rages" random results need probably 4 other exotic weapons of the same type? Then pretty hard to get them and I can understand why they are highly priced. I hope there will be some direct trade system, so far I only know trading post to trade them for gold and then buy another one(if you found one of a weapon type you can't use). - lordmd 13:00, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Pages with too many expensive parser function calls

I just noticed this is as a category. What can we do to fix this? Anzenketh 12:52, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

That's due to #ifexist function in the recipe template. Every usage of it requires a separate SQL query to the database, so in order to prevent anyone deliberately overloading the server, it is limited to 100 calls per page. And every usage of the recipe template has 5 #ifexist calls in it. Now that you've switched over to the new mystic-only recipe template, that will partially resolve this, since the generic ingredients won't have icons.
However, I'm starting to think that these recipes should be presented in a different format entirely. Take a look at Huntsman#Sigils (or any of the discipline pages, really). I think a tabular format like that would be best here - especially for the "other weapons". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:16, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Is this normal behaviour?

I put four rares into the Mystic Forge and got nothing back. Is this intended to happen randomly? - J.P.User J.P. sigicon.pngTalk 13:34, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Happenned to me once. I prpopse to write a bug ticket. They actually answered the ticket with sorry, but no returns, :)
I have lost several sets of 4 rares for nothing. I started taking screenshots throughout the forging to show to Anet. I showed one of a successful forge and one at the same point in the animation, receiving nothing. They replied with "thanks for bringing this to our attention". Which stands to reason that it is indeed a bug. It is still happening as of the Oct 1 update. I think people should still report it as a bug because with more bug reports, the higher it gets prioritized. 76.64.41.165 18:29, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
Just had it happen to me as well. 4 yellows I had (2 level 40ish, 1 level 70ish, 1 level 80) and recieved nothing. I am very disappoint. :( 108.13.221.103 18:28, 27 October 2012 (PDT)

Mystic Chests

The plot thickens!. I put in 500 Butter, 1 Glob of Ecto, and 1 Mystic Coin. It gave me a Mystic Chest, which opened to a Mystic Jewel (a 20 silver junk item), and a Mystic Nexus, another Mystic Forge item I've never seen before. Karew 23:51, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

I put in 500 Soft Logs, 1 Glob of Ectoplasm and 1 Mystic Coin and also got a chest. It contained Mystic Jewel Fragment and a Mystic Core. 192.168.104.81 03:32, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Fine Crafting Materials Upgrade

After gambling a lot with the mystic forge and trying to upgrade fine materials to a higher tier, I received 12 items back which is 2 more than the 5-10 in the formula. I edited the recipe page.Screenshot available upon request. Gamiosa 00:08, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

Generic Recipe vs example. =

The {{mystic recipe}} template allows from generic mats. However I noticed that all the generic recipes were change to specific ones. For example the Mystic Forge Weapons. What do you think works better giving a specific example or providing a generic recipe? Anzenketh 01:39, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

I would prefer generic but I think its more important that we're consistent. User Kirbman signature.png talk 00:24, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Mystic Armour

Following testing with Tier 6 Medium Mask components, if Mystic Armour does exist the recipes for it do not follow the same pattern as the Mystic Weapons.

Virgin's "luck"

I had the feeling that a virgin character, who has not used the forge, has better chance e.g. when forging 4* lvl 80 gold weapons to gain an exotic. However some recent experiments I did contradict this. --Ras 11:46, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Please add new comments on the bottom. Every game has these little theories, and I've never heard of any developer doing anything of the sort, so unless you do 1000 strictly controlled trials and come up with something, that's just how random chance works sometimes. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 16:48, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Downgrade in rarity

Has anyone ever put in four items and the resulting item was lower in quality? I just put in 4 rares into the forge and got a masterwork back <_< One of the rares was a transmuted item though. The transmuted item was originally fine in quality before transmutation. 192.168.104.79 19:20, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

The quality of the item doesn't change, the most obvious indicator being that the damage of the weapon is the same.--Relyk 19:26, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I put 4 rares weapons into mystic forge and got a masterwork back. The quality of the item decreased from rare to masterwork. 76.100.233.61 19:33, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
So by "transmuted item" you mean you used the fine skin on an exotic weapon--Relyk 19:46, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
I meant I stuck 4 rares into the mystic forge and got a masterwork back. I said 4 rare weapons accidentally but it was actually a speargun, 2 bows, and transmuted winged armor chest piece since masquerade armor is ugly but is the default rare non-lvl 80 light armor. Wasn't really hoping for anything but a useable or higher level rare192.168.104.79 19:55, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
Same thing happened in my case after trying, it does give a masterwork item that's a much higher level than the components (55 compared to mid-40s).--Relyk 03:03, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

I got a downgrade yesterday. 4 rares all the same turned into a masterwork at a higher level, different weight. It was a karma vendor item that had a quote and was soulbound on acquire. lovely.75.119.242.195 15:29, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

I got about 6 out of 10 tries downgraded today. Turned in 10 sets of 4 Level 80 Rampager's Swords Masterworks and got back 6 various 'Fine' grade weapons.

I just put 4 8slot bags in mystic forge

I got a lot of those bags from pvp glory chests and I dont really need them. So I put 4 8slot bags twice and got an item token both times. I think first was shortbow token and then medium leggings token. If this is not allready on the page, can someone add please?--149.126.140.253 00:16, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

Could someone clarify this please...?

"Gold cannot be created from Iron. Platinum can be created from both Iron and Gold, with Gold being considered a higher tier metal for the promotion formula." Does this mean that 250 Iron + 1 Gold + 5 Dust + 2 Stones = X Platinum?? This is what it seems to be saying but it would be nice to know for sure before I use the Iron. I haven't finished gathering that much though, actually, so I may just try it myself if I have enough before anyone's answered. If so, I'll edit, but I hope someone beats me to the punch. 69.253.195.167 14:59, 21 October 2012 (UTC)

I believe that means 250 iron + 1 platinum + 5 dust + 2 stones = X platinum. I would infer that no recipe exists for making gold from iron. Rather, the recipe is 250 silver + 1 gold + 5 dust + 2 stones = X gold. Also, it would imply that 250 gold + 1 platinum + 5 (higher tier than before)dust + 3 stones = X platinum. Hope that helps.
