Feedback 2016/02/19[edit]

Some of the listed data has become obsolete regarding changes from 09.02.2016. -- Spellforcer

Not even going to begin trying to figure out how to edit this stuff or work out new patterns or anything, but for what it's worth, I just plopped down in Timberline Falls and used 10 Pact Mapping whatevertheyares; the results in order were:
  1. 5 Coarse Leather Sections
  2. 5 Rugged Leather Sections
  3. 1 Shiny Bauble
  4. 5 Rugged Leather Sections
  5. 1 Corrupted Fragment
  6. 5 Rugged Leather Sections
  7. 1 Shiny Bauble
  8. 5 Coarse Leather Sections
  9. 5 Coarse Leather Sections
  10. 1 Shiny Bauble

I'm working on updating the values, it is slow work but I've been given help. I'll go file your results now + update the lookup template.
Note for self: IP data was submitted during Week 4. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:04, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
Any progress with updating the map rewards? I've noted that the map rewards that include leather and cloth are particularly wrong.73.181.127.107 17:47, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
As far as I know, the update for anything with leather and cloth is totally complete for core tyria maps. Where is the out of date information you're seeing? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:11, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
Well, actually, it was about 1-2 weeks ago that I really noticed it. And then I didn't see any coarse leather sections or rugged leather sections in the reward list this week, and thought that was an error on the wiki, when in fact, they were simply not offered as map rewards this week. I went through the maps and compared to the wiki list and everything does appear to be correct this week.73.181.127.107 20:12, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Is there a way to tell where exactly along the reward track you currently are (how many points)?[edit]

Also, how many points does each activity give (events, JPs, etc)? --138.75.212.57 14:38, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

1) Sadly you can only tell how far you are by what reward you're getting, and even then that only works when you see the 10x marker (which occurs every 20th item)
2) We don't know how many points, other than roughly 100, because there isn't a way to track how many pts you have :P
-Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:04, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

How then is the actual number of points for each level known? Why is the first level shown here as 200 points, and not 2 or 2000 - isn't it a guess? Is there any place that you can see an actual number of points? - Brian Kendig (talk) 15:51, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Wrong week?[edit]

Right now this page says "Map bonus rewards for this week (week 6)", but click on the "[other rewards]" link for any of the maps, and that page says "For your reference, the current week is Week 7." - Brian Kendig (talk) 15:45, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Fixed thanks, I'd forgotten to update Form:Map bonus rewards query to reflect our findings that the reset time occurs every "Thursday 20:00 UTC" not "Thursday 00:00 UTC". -81.135.73.149 17:09, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Burn it with fire. Besides if you click on "other rewards" at the end of the table on the page, you get a page that's much better and prettier, so I'm not sure why those pages existed. - Doodleplex 21:00, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
It was me. I automated the page making with an info dump i got off a data mine. Im not the one that mined it I just wanted the info here because there previously was NOTHING. I love what you guys have done with the info though. I agree burn it with fire Guy451 (talk) 01:09, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Do the rewards for a map ever reset, and if so what causes it?[edit]

For example I wanted the 5th reward, so I took note of the IP address of the map and got into another one. But I was still at the same point in the reward track (I think). Does anything reset the track? (Except for finishing it of course.) The preceding unsigned comment was added by Countytime (talkcontribs) at 19:43, 27 June 2016‎ (UTC).

(new comment moved to bottom) no, nothing resets it. You stay on the same "track" based on your account progress for the week. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:57, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
So if I earn 2 rewards on a map, then I wait 8 weeks until the same map reward schedule comes back around in the rotation, it will remember that I already earned 2 rewards on that track and start me off on the third one? --Felbryn (talk) 20:34, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Can someone clarify this?[edit]

"There is no consensus if there is a limit to how many rewards an account can get per day/week (some believe its 2.500 map-based cap)" Is that suppose to be 2,500? Or a 2.5 ratio of something? This is a case where a typo makes the meaning totally unclear to me.

I'd guess it means 2500 points since ~10 rewards = 10*200 = 2000. I'll remove the dot, but we still don't know if this line is correct or not. (nobody has the patience to do 50 events in a row and record their data...) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:45, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
Surely someone has tried using a bunch of Pact Scout's Mapping Materials in succession?
I'm rather puzzled that we have such precise data (the number of points earned per event, the number of points required for each reward, speculation with specific numbers about caps and diminishing returns) despite none of those numbers being visible in-game and with no cited source for any of it. Where is this stuff coming from? --Felbryn (talk) 17:41, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
From time to time, Anet reaches out to the community (or vice versa) when certain large projects are being undertaken. I believe this was one of those cases. G R E E N E R 18:36, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Felbryn, I've used up to 40 PSMM in a row - there wasn't any DR for those.
The original data was extracted from the .dat gamefile by skilled users. When ANet made the update (which changed weeks with <t6 leather in it), they very kindly provided me with an account to research the updated items with. They point blank didn't want to tell me what the exact changes they made were. The account I was given had TP restrictions preventing it from selling or buying anything, and I was given enough PSMM to document everything for the wiki. It was a horrible dull project which is far less secretive and exciting than it sounds - can you imagine logging in once every week for 8 weeks, double-clicking 40x for each map and writing each result down? I have confirmed the original week entries as much as i could be bothered to. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:38, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Addendum: because the PSMM don't work for HoT maps, I couldn't research those maps nearly as quickly, so I didn't bother. Hope this helps clear things up for you. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:40, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
edit2: looks like I missed some of the initial question (skim-reading much) - I've not found any reference to the "points" ingame, these were purely from the dat miners. They are however a "useful" count, but we could remove them... -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:41, 18 July 2016 (UTC)
Check out the wikipedia article on decimal marks, different parts of the world use different marks (for example most countries in Europe use a comma as a decimal mark and a dot as thousands separator). User Judas Sig.pngudas 18:16, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Diminishing returns[edit]

So I just did 18 events on the trot (using my warrior) in Frostgorge Sound, and i can confirm that I only received the first 8 rewards (i.e. 16 events) before Diminishing Returns kicked in. So the maximum points obtainable lies between [16*100]=1600 and below [18*100]<1800. I am now going to switch characters and confirm that the DR doesn't apply to another character. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:49, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

edit summary should have said 1600* -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:49, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
So I hopped onto my necromancer. I got 3 rewards, then hopped back on warrior. Warrior has not reset. I guess that my warrior will reset at 00:00 UTC, or possibly 20:00 UTC tomorrow.
Here's where it got weird: my necro received the first item on the 19th event (necro's #1 event), a second item on the 20th event (necro #2), nothing on the 22nd, and the next item in the sequence on the 24th 23rd event (necro #3). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:27, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
Okay more findings:
  • [A] Hero points which finish with "event gold medals" don't contribute points. This explains why I didn't get any reward above (edited with strikethrough)
  • [B] Guild bounties don't contribute either
  • [C] Map bonus reward points are account wide, not character bound.
  • [D] Leaving the map and reentering on the same character does not reset the DR. Different instance makes no difference either.
Ignoring the effects of findings [A+B], my necro received her final drop on my cumulative 37th event, and that item was the 17th item in the sequence. No other items were received after this (by the 39th event)
Suspicions:
  • [E] Silver or Bronze event rewards probably count for less map bonus reward points than Gold - this might explain why I ended up with funny numbers, at least one of my event rewards was Silver, and another was bronze. The other explanation could be that final events in meta chains give an increased reward.
Anyway, I repeated this on three characters (war, nec, ele) and all characters stopped receiving map bonus rewards after the 8th reward, but as soon as i switched they received a reward for the first event they did, ergo the cap is 17 events. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:37, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
Wild conjecture: diminishing returns are per-character, and they actually start immediately but go really slowly. Like, instead of your first N events each being 100 points, maybe they're 120/115/110/105/100/95/90... If you play with only 1 character, that still ends up being 1 reward every 2 events for a really long time. But if you're really close to the next reward when you switch characters, you can earn rewards on both of your first 2 events because they actually add up to slightly more than 200 points.
Simpler conjecture: you did something that gave you extra map reward points without realizing it. (The page says you earn them for events, jumping puzzles, and mini-dungeons...but maybe you also earn a little for renown hearts or revealing new map areas or who-knows-what else? It would be really hard to check.) --Felbryn (talk) 20:32, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

A reddit guy also suspects DR is a soft decline: link. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:03, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
It is currently 20 hours after the map bonus rewards changed. I wasn't around this morning, but having just logged in i can confirm that the Diminishing Returns have been reset (probably with regular server reset at 00:00 UTC). Also I might have not recorded one of the Vial drops, I'm checking my screenshots now. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:26, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
I'm fairly certain that either 1) this is no longer true or 2) the values have changed. I did over 20 events in Sparkfly Fen today and received map rewards every two events the entire time I was there. I likely could have kept going. That suggests that the numbers don't add up anymore. Added a verify tag to the page at the DR section. Orenwolf (talk) 00:47, 3 July 2017 (UTC)
You may be correct, I did about an hours worth of events in Fireheart Rise and the rewards didn't seem to tail off completely. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:17, 13 July 2017 (UTC)
There definitely is still a diminishing returns mechanic; it affects more than just the map rewards though. I farmed for a few hours in Frostgorge Sound tonight, and got normal rewards from 0 to 3400 points. Once I reached that point however, the xp reward for events was considerably reduced (from ~30k xp to ~8k xp), and the map rewards came equally slowly (6-7 events for a reward instead of 2). 188.141.210.196 20:47, 8 September 2017 (UTC)

Feedback 2016/11/10[edit]

Just an fyi, searching "map bonus rewards" does NOT link to this page, the search engine appears to get confused. If, however, you just search "map bonus" it will properly take you to this page, despite the page title being much closer to the original search than the edited one. --75.155.78.194 16:08, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Plurals, the bane of our (search engine's) existence. I added a redirect. -- Dagger (talk) 16:12, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

Expansion Map Bonus Rewards[edit]

Is there any research or datamining that shows what the bonus map rewards are for the different HoT and PoF maps? ~Mervil User Mervil Sig.png 06:39, 16 April 2018 (UTC)

Week is not updated[edit]

Week 3 table is shown. It's currently week 4 - Manassas (talk) 12:28, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

It's showing week 4 for me. You're probably just having a cache issue. Click on the clock at the top of the page to refresh it. —Idris User Idris signature.png 12:43, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
If it's updated for Idris, then the problem is Manassas' cache, not serverside - do CTRL+F5. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:59, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
I wasn't born yesterday .... Tried on 3 different computers on two different IPs - and of course I've cleared the cache. Still shows week 3 - Manassas (talk) 16:43, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
Just do confirm, it's showing week 4 for me too. —Kvothe (talk) 19:10, 30 August 2019 (UTC)

it says week 5, but in fire heart rise the rewards are week 6 (armored scale, etc...)

Reward table not updating duly[edit]

Hello,

The table in the Central Tyria reward track rotation section does not always reflect the week we are in. For example, at the time of this writing, we are in Week 8, but the page still reads Map bonus rewards for this week (week 7). It usually takes about one day for it to update, once the rotation changes.

In contrast, the pages opened by clicking on [other rewards] are always spot-on after only the rotation has just been updated. These other pages are clearly updated automatically, shouldn't it be the case for the Map Bonus Reward main page as well?

Thanks

P.S. "works on my machine" is not a solution.

--Lucaster (talk) 05:55, 24 September 2021 (UTC)

The linked pages are query pages that are not cached.
This page has a cache, you can see that if you right click and look the source of the page: Saved in parser cache with key en_wikidb_gw2:pcache:idhash:156949-0!dateformat=default and timestamp 20210924060822 and revision id 2338556.
This is the same for every single template on the wiki actually which uses templates not widgets. As with every single page which has a date related calculation you can recalculate the wiki-side cache by clicking on the clock at the top of your screen, on the purge tab at the top of the page, or now (since i just added it) the purge button right below the table. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:11, 24 September 2021 (UTC)
