History[edit]

Why is the history section written using past tense? Make it sound like Lion's Arch no longer exists. Ramei Arashi 15:28, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

History = events in the past. Past tense is entirely appropriate. --Valshia 20:44, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
"it accepted all races into its safety. Independently ruled by the Captain's Council, a body of pirate captains whose word was respected, and defended by its own force of the Lionguard" past tense makes it sound like its no longer that way. Ramei Arashi 08:33, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
That is in past tense because 1) switching from present to past tense in a single work (especially paragraph or sentence) is typically looked down upon in the rules of English and 2) that's talking about how it became, as the rest of the sentence shows (full sentence: "Independently ruled by the Captain's Council, a body of pirate captains whose word was respected, and defended by its own force of the Lionguard, Lion's Arch became a place where all residents could work together without being beholden to any particular race.") It doesn't show that it is no longer that way, due to it being about what it became. Konig/talk 22:52, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Tenanera's Pit[edit]

not sure if anyone noticed it but thought it could be noted as trivia. read Tenanera backwards :P. and theres a model in the sand of logo for arenanet also :). thought it was a nice easter egg ArthasShadowsong 00:53, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Tenagg Flametroller still beats this. Konig/talk 01:28, 5 May 2012 (UTC)

Yeah i failed to read it too, and added the trivia section.....and the wiki refuses to let me delete it. could someone do that? sorry, your friendly, unsigned ip ;) The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.48.210.197 (talk) at 18:10, 9 September 2012 (UTC).

Hole in the game lore[edit]

Correct me if I'm wrong here ( please do, no one likes making an idiot of themselves once let alone multiple times) but wasn't the flooding of the original Lions Arch caused by a continent rising out of the ocean. If my knowledge of mechanics is as sound as I boast it is then this is the opposite of what should happen. If a continent is underwater, and it rises out of the water so at least some of it is above the waterline, then the waterline falls. Hence Lions Arch v1 should not be 20 meters underwater but sitting on a plateua a good 50 meters above it. What do you guys reckon? 79.75.82.59 16:26, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

If the continent rose quickly, it would displace an incredible amount of water, resulting in more of a tsunami than an actual change in the waterline. The summary even states that the new Lion's Arch was rebuilt after the flood waters receded. --Thervold 16:40, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Sure, but isn't the old LA like 20 meters below the new uniform water line? 79.75.82.59 18:03, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
It wasn't actually a continent that rose, merely a city (Orr). The water rearranged over the lands rather than that there's more or less than before. Also, we don't know what's off the map (all the way south) and what happened there or how it influenced the water rearrangement. I wouldn't worry too much ;-). --Ee 19:56, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I get what your saying about the water quantity, which would surely remain the same. I was just questioning that the water, either through the water cycle or merely gravity would go back to the sea and leave everything how it was, not 20 meters below the water line. But yeah, maybe I am looking into this too much. 79.75.82.59 20:15, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Orr is a peninsula not a continent (or city) - Tyria is the continent, Orr is just part of it - the city, Arah, was at the epicenter of Orr and what was sunk. It's like if Spain were to sink and then rise out of the ocean (or perhaps more accurately given the placement of land - if Africa were the side of Spain and do what I said). But yeah, the extremity is a tad odd unless one were to assume that the buildings were pushed closer to the waterline as well (which I think is the case because with how the lighthouse's position, which somehow it managed to still stand, the rest would be at only ~5 meters below sealevel at most). Konig/talk 21:52, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay, that makes enough sense to shut me up for a while. 212.139.242.159 07:14, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Think about this: if the continent rises as a whole and doesn't disconnect from a tectonic plate, its like a giant pimple coming to the surface = massive water displacement and thus a higher water level, however if the continent rises and it is disconnected from the seabed, like a floating piece of ice, then logically the water would drop. If it was loose like a piece of drifting ice though, that wouldn't make so much sense, so I would assume that for the purpose of their story, ANet would have you believe in a pimple scenario. Strange deep watery pit in sewers?[edit]

It was found by this guy near the end of the video here. Anything significant? [1] Yumiko ^,~ 14:49, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

I found it on Sunday and took a dive, all the way to the bottom. There's a crab, and lots of fish, but not much of actual note. If you like broken ship parts though, keep looking for broken sewer grates, and pits that go down. It's pretty awesome looking down there ^^ --Starfleck 16:24, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
I found out its part of a personal story and is only used for that.Yumiko ^,~ 14:57, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Which personal story? Konig/talk 16:55, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Rangers may find it useful, as a Juvenile Armor Fish resides there. --Thervold 21:52, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
In reply to Konig, its part of the Virgil track Forearmed Is Forewarned and has you, the player, going into the sewers to figure out why people are disappearing from LA. You basically go down there and fight undead minions of Zhaitan. Yumiko ^,~ 22:04, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

The fountain?[edit]

There has been no mention of the fountain in Lions Arch, that is a very popular tourist attraction. Perhaps a translation of the text around it? I've added an image of it to the page. J0el 10:23, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

The Translation of the text reads "from ruin we prosper"76.123.170.56 23:46, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Entrances/Exits[edit]

In the article, there's no mention of the different ways to enter/exit LA, whether it's by asura portals or a conventional road. Is there an exit to the north of LA to the level 25-35 area? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 218.186.18.236 (talk) at 15:30, 22 July 2012‎ (UTC).

I just added the parts about the Bloodcoast Ward, home city, and WvW portals. Mystikpretzel (talk) 15:00, 20 June 2013 (UTC)

Other Portals?[edit]

There are currently only a few known portals. One is in Tomb of the Primeval Kings, which was corrupted by Abaddon, and it is located seemingly near where the Dragonbrand ends. Another portal is in the Tomb of Drascir, deep in charr territory, and yet another portal can be found on the Battle Isles, which was sunk by the flood caused by Zhaitan's rise - Is this necessary? Could there be another article describing the other portals that lead to the mists or is this the only place where it can be mentioned? --Qubicneter 02:20, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

No, it's not necessary and is more appropriate on The Mists. And I shall be moving it there since it oddly isn't. Removed the bit from this page. Konig/talk 05:10, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Jumping Puzzles[edit]

Should it be mentioned where the jumping puzzles are, 2 of which have chests at the end? Or are we not adding that kind of information to the wiki? RabbitRed 16:55, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

absolutly, go ahead and be bold~and add them RhoninUser Rhonin Soren sig.pngSoren 19:06, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Points of Interest[edit]

I can get to 18 of the 21 points. The other three I've been all over and I don't see them. The three dots don't even show up on the map as 'non-completed'. Postern Ward...I've been all over the inn (upstairs, downstairs, basement). Claw Island Portage...I've been all over the dock, top and bottom. The last one is the giant Diver's ledge...nothing. I can get the waypoints, no problem. But it's the points of interest next to them that aren't visible/registering.

Edit, Ok, Nevermind. The image here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/9/9c/Lion%27s_Arch_map.jpg must be from the beta weekends and has three points that aren't necessary for completion. The image is linked from the main Lion's Arch page and probably needs updating. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Drunken Bulldog (talkcontribs) at 04:09, 10 September 2012 (UTC).

Most zone/city images that were accessible during the BWEs are from said BWEs and yes, need updating. Konig/talk 04:54, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Gun Vista[edit]

How do you get to the Vista near the Eastern Ward Waypoint? The solution for this is not obvious unless you have the rifle skill on a character. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.57.123.202 (talk).

Take the gun from Klagg, activate the gun, aim the green target area at the Vista island, and then fire it. You will be launched across the gap and onto the island. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:CraigDC42 (talk).

Moving marker[edit]

Today I saw a moving marker whose name was "Commander" or "General" (I've barely seen it for like 5 seconds) going through the Charr gate... I've followed it but nothing in the Black Citadel. has anyone an idea of what this could be? (91.179.0.227 09:42, 23 September 2012 (UTC))

Commander. Players can buy a Commander's Compendium from certain NPCs which give them this marker, it's meant to help organize folks together in WvW and PvE for the larger coordination stuff (able to find where folks are from far away and the like). Konig/talk 10:11, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Discovering asura gate to the Mists[edit]

According to Sheriff Siriam of the Lion's Arch Main Haven Headquarters, the portal to the Mists was discovered only after waters had receded from Lion's Arch, and that it took many years from the asuran colleges to make it connect to the Mists. I think this is very interesting, considering the disputed origins of the gate (humans beliefs/previous information indicating the portal was created by Balthazar, even if it has the function and appearance of a regular asura gate), and that it should definitely be noted on the page. Any further thoughts on this? Mediggo 18:49, 7 October 2012 (UTC)

Lost Shores tie-in[edit]

A couple of whales have beached in LA as of 19:00 GMT, presumably this is a tie-in with the coming content update. 92.233.205.4 19:31, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Multiple removals[edit]

I'm getting really tired of having to find the video of vistas in Lion's Arch. Stop removing it; there's no excuse for doing so. Daddicus 17:37, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

Putting it here so there's even less reason. Lion's Arch: Complete Vista Guide. And, Konig, what do you mean by "we don't do this"? Daddicus 18:33, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
Daddicus, the same mindset used in GWW is apparently alive and well here; because a select limited few think it doesn't belong, then no one else should think it belongs there either. 69.183.26.232 21:21, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Corrected bug[edit]

The graphics bug listed has been fixed, apparently in one of the latest updates. It can be adjusted, but I think the fact that it happened should be left in as documentation. I am just not sure how to word it appropriately. 69.183.23.65 19:59, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

You're wrong, the bug still exists. There are two versions of the map, actual terrain and painted-like. They switch dynamically as you zoom in or out. On the "realistic" map everything's fine, but on the "artistic" one - the bridge retains it's old, pre-Lost Shores position. MalGalad 20:06, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
I have not changed my zoom at all on the mini-map. On my screen, for a long time, the layout that was there in beta (I played on the last beta weekend) on the bridge that I am referring to was accurate to the game. And then, on one of the updates, the bridge no longer traveled from where it went previously to the lighthouse island in the explorable/main area, but in the mini map, it still showed going directly to the lighthouse island. And then, it was fixed in that view on one of the updates so that it went to the building to the south of the lighthouse island, which is how it actually goes now, in game. 69.177.225.135 02:15, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

Trivia "monsterless area"[edit]

can someone explain it to me? it seems like there are other citys that fit that criteria unless I am mistaken? also karka? and personal story happens here? or are they talking about white mobs?-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 01:10, 23 May 2013 (UTC)

LA is not "the only monsterless area that has no separate instances located inside its area under normal circumstances." The karka attack was special, so I can see that as anomalous. But, at the very least, everyone visits LA to see the brief recap of Destiny's Edge's history, as told by kids.
Monsterless: yes. No separate instances: no. Different from other cities: it does not offer race-specific cultural weapons, just the pirate weapons. I don't think that's worth a note. 75.36.181.48 01:28, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
There are also Lionguard weapons available there in Fort Marriner. The article city also details the differences between these hubs and explorable zones. Mediggo (talk) 04:50, 23 May 2013 (UTC)
Every race town has instances, or instance areas, that are visitable under normal operation of the game (i.e. NOT during special events or char specific storylines). Lion's Arch does not. Hoelbrak has multiple separate instances, visiting Stonewright's Steading, and 2 areas inside the Great Lodge, including Knut Whitebear's Loft. The *monsterless* comment was to differentiate between towns and explorable areas (which have monsters). This is a valid trivia note.69.177.225.135 20:33, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
not really seeing as we have already disproven it a few times. in the above comments there has been instance areas in the personal story that are not just charr race related. if you mean that there isn't a home instance then I would be fine with putting that. -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 22:32, 11 July 2013 (UTC)
Yes really, and you haven't disproven anything. Show, under regular exploration, that there is a spot where you go in LA that what the game, and the general game populace, refers to as an instance, and you will disprove it. By the way, char = character, I didn't say Charr (race). All of the race towns have an area referred to as an instance outside of the normal area, where LA does not. The wiki itself even lists each home town having at least one, and some more, instance. What exactly have you disproven again?
I am not specifying "home instance" or "storyline instance", I am saying, under NORMAL exploration of the area. Hoelbrak has already been pointed out above, Black Citadel has Hero's Canton and another three in the Imperator's Core alone, all listed as an "instance" on the wiki. The Grove has the command area and the House of Caithe, Rata Sum has Applied Development Lab, Council Level, Idea Incubation Lab, and Rata Sum Port Authority. Divinity's Reach has the Queen's Throne Room and Seraph Headquarters area. 69.177.225.135 02:01, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
then your comment needs to be reworded. also Idea Incubation Lab, and Rata Sum Port Authority are not instances seeing as you can still map chat with people in the area. edit: also I don't think anyone cares the same thing could be said about normal zones. its not really trivia imho -User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 08:59, 12 July 2013 (UTC)

(Reset indent) If the wording is wrong, then fix the wording, instead of removing the entire entry. This same bull**** problem happened regularly in GWW as well. Instead of fixing a valid entry, the whole thing was removed, and then the person making the entry had to justify why a valid entry needed to be there instead of the person removing it having to justify why they removed a valid point.

It is fine that you do not find it to be trivia Zesbeer. Your definition of trivia doesn't mean that everyone else in the world feels the same about what trivia is.

As far as normal zones, that is why I specified at first, with the monsterless areas. Rata Sum does have an instance (which I listed before with Arcane Council POI). 69.182.134.5 04:43, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

For reference I did not remove it, from what I can tell of the history log. I put a note up first saying "hey why is this here?" so ur scenario is baseless and invalid in this situation.-User Zesbeer sig.png Zesbeer 04:50, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
The fact LA has no permanent instances is a trivial note, doesn't matter whether it's interesting, "valid", or a reason to bitch about someone disagreeing with you. I'm going to leave it there because it's close to vandalism at this point and a discussion going on for 4 months over a Trivia section should've died already.--Relyk ~ talk < 05:17, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Lighthouse Monument in sanctum harbor[edit]

There is a monument here remembering the lives lost in the karka attack (and maybe more). It's written in new krytan, and I've started translating a bit of it, I haven't seen it posted elsewhere, so I might as well add it here.

New statue to Cobiah Marriner[edit]

They have added a statue to Cobah Marriner to the beach at White Crane Terrace. At his feet is a book:

""I say we build a port of our own. We build it, and we defend it against Orr. We make it a free port, not beholden to any nation, open to anyone who sails the sea. We'll teach others how to fight against the dead ships, using charr weaponry, asuran innovation, and human courage."

"The port would be open to any and all, so long as they'll fight against Orr and help to keep our waters clear."

No, the bridge is an important historical monument in LA, most likely protected by law from any construction changes.
Confirmed by screenshot file history: the bridge has at least not been modified since November 2012 (1375 AE :P). ---- Titus The Third User titus the third.png 09:04, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Battle of LA timeframe[edit]

Do we have ANY confirmation that it took 'weeks for the siege to be broken'?

Because we know for a fact several living story events happen ONCE explicitly (Like Marionette, and the Escape from LA dialogue clearly points at it happening a single time only, same with the battle watchknight event since we know the Marionette 'fails' weren't canon). Those event happening once means that 'weeks' refers only to the miasma blowing away, which makes no sense.

Around a week total for the battle is far more likely. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.85.5.124 (talk) at 22:34, 10 May 2014‎ (UTC).

Does the Chantry of Secrets not count? I know technically its physical location is in Bloodtide Coast and it's also accessible from there, but it's not actually part of that map and it still works exactly like any other instance in Lion's Arch would when accessing it from the portal in the Order HQ in Lion's Arch. Lion's Arch Fountain?[edit]

I expereinced something very odd that I cannot find any documentation on with the fountain in LA. It started close to the bank, I was running towards the bank and jumped through the fountain, apparantly just as it shot out and I then was launched to several different parts of the fountain, in a series of jumps(similar to the launch pads near Tequatl) and landed to rest at the Black Lion Trading conch. I have not been able to recreate the experience since. So I'm wondering if it was a glitch or an undiscovred feature? I believe research is needed into this. 209.33.92.178 03:45, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Jump pads were added to speed your way from the bank/MF to the BL trading post. You can find the first of those little purple pads on a patch of grass in the octopus' tentacles. G R E E N E R 03:48, 7 November 2015 (UTC)

Gallery length[edit]

The length of the gallery is awful, imho. I see no point of adding Point of Interest/zone pictures when they are already on their pages? It is not like they were orphaned and need a place, and they do already have a proper place. ~Sime 19:57, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

Oh, I am sorry. I thought you could show, for example, what Lion's Arch looked like after it was destroyed. But if it's too long, how could you shorten it?-TGM-Christ (talk) 20:02, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
Agreed with Sime. Having some to highlight buildings and landmarks is good, but File:Mystic Forge.jpg adds nothing to the page. I trimmed and cleaned it a bit, I left the historical Season 2 stuff there for now, though I wish we could go and take some daytime pictures of those (alas) and think there's too many there too. I also removed the no-longer-historical loading screens. Konig (talk) 20:12, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

Should there also be a page for Lion's Arch during Living World Season 2 (Lion's Arch/historical), like the area descriptions during LW2, e.g. Fort Marriner/historical or is it asking too much?
