Note about Skillful[edit]

I was tracking Skillful on my main, since I was close to completing it, when I leveled up during a fight and completed the achievement. Since I'm in my 50's currently, it was odd, considering the description specifically states skill points from challenges or leveling a character at 80.108.176.234.126 22:55, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

Quotes[edit]

Anyone else notice all the quotes from movies and TV names? I know "I Will Let My Fear Pass Through Me" is a Dune or Children of Dune quote, "Wipe Them Out... All of Them" is Star Wars. A few others there. Anyone know the rest? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.184.69.196 (talkcontribs).

A couple of them seem related to particular races. Dunno about references, but they seem plenty. Also, please sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~), thanks! Mediggo 07:15, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Seriously? That quote is from Star Wars? Are you sure it couldn't have been from anywhere else? Like, you know, a common bad-guy phrase from just about any movie that has one in it? 80.112.181.245 21:41, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
"Only Mostly Unkillable" is from Princess Bride's "He's only mostly dead" - 64.180.204.203 20:12, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

Skillful[edit]

For skillful: there are 544 skills sum, from which there are 30 racial, 514 profession specific, from there 195 weapon specific from which there are 61 first position skills which characters don't have to learn - I don't know how skillful is calculated, but these might numbers might help. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 188.36.141.6 (talk • contribs) at 11:13, 3 August 2012 (UTC).

Not the skills learned I think. One char never can learn all that skills right? I think it is the skill challenges you completed(like there being one other for the hearts which seems buggd with 500 at tier 4 when there are not 500 hearts in the game). Number on that achievement is always the same as my completed skill challenges on world completion. - lordmd 16:34, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
I have no idea how this number is counted actually. I thought that weapon skills does not count, and it only counts the skills I bought, but when I saw I'm 48 / 50 to next tier and bought two skills that cost 3 sp, nothing changed.
Faalagorn/ 20:13, 8 September 2012 (UTC).
I'm almost certain that this only counts the total skill challenges completed across all characters on an account. I'll be paying specific attention to it as I create an alt this week and change it if I verify this but at map completion on 1 character I've confirmed with several players that this matches their completed skill challenges at 202/500.--Zumbaro 06:39, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
I've been keeping track of mine, it is definitely total number of skill challenges, but completing the same one on multiple characters only counts it once 192.168.104.83 16:30, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
It is counting the skill challenges, but it is like "Local Hero" accountwide and you get multiple points for completing the same challenge with different chars. --MG127 09:51, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
It is counting every skill that you learn. NOT counting skill challenges completed. There are more than 1,000 skills in the game. To earn this achievement's highest tier, you have to earn skills across all 8 professions.
It is absolutely, unequivocably tracking number of skill challenges completed. I have tested it now with 4 different characters. A level 80 character with all weapon skills, slot skills, etc., can advance this achievement by completing map skill point challenges. A new low level character cannot advance this achievement bylearning new weapon skills and purchasing slot skills. Goomby 21:25, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I thought it counted all skill points earned, both from skill challenges and from leveling up. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:37, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Just leveled up through crafting 10 times and gained 0 progress towards Skillful. Went and did a Skill Challenge on an alt, and it changed from 445 to 446. I'm gonna edit the page to reflect this. — Skakid 23:09, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
It seems skill points earned by gaining levels after you have reached lvl80 are now counted towards this achivement. Was changed sometime after the April 30th patch 188.220.249.212 21:20, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

Lifetime Survivor Achievement[edit]

Do we have any information on this? The title seems currently stuck either in-progress for some players (where it won't advance) or it will remain at zero. Does it operate the same way as the Monthly Survivor title in which the experience has to be accumulated in the same shard/instance? Or does it operate similarly to the old survivor title in Guild Wars 1 based upon character creation?

--Irrell 18:29, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

It's stuck for me on zero permanently, despite the fact I got 100k for monthly achievement in August. I think it's just a bug, and it's supposed like GW1 past the patch that allowed you to die. Are you sure it's not stuck for some people like you told? Either way, I think it'll be fixed eventually, se we should just mark it as broken for now.
Faalagorn/ 18:58, 4 September 2012 (UTC).
Who wrote this note? "Bug.Lifetime Survivor is not progressing and stuck at 0 for some people." ? that means that there are some out there for those this achievement works? --MG127 12:16, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
It's not working for me. I wish their would prioritize this one on the list of bug fixes. User Kirbman signature.png talk 04:07, 14 October 2012 (UTC)
Works now, but if you so much as zone out it resets... 87.195.101.155 01:01, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Unlke GW1 were survivor was a very frustrating process, since one can safely get experience by crafting in GW2, getting this title is not that hard. I unintentionally did it with a bunch of crafting in less than an hour. 173.228.107.103 05:56, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

(Reset indent) How it wotk now ? I have 285.000 and I dont die I have meny events in wvw I end SE explo p3 with 177.000 exp nothing give me more. WTH to do to append exp to this achievement ? I cant zone, no exit gw2, what block this achievement ?

You have to gain all the experience in a single zone, without exiting the game. In other words, it starts from scratch every time. The easiest way to obtain it is having an L60+ character level up by learning one crafting discipline. (Without proper planning, leveling up chef might cost you 3g; with planning, less than 1.5g.) (The part about not being to rezone is apparently a bug, according to one of the devs on the forums.) If you hate crafting, then go to one of the L60 or L70 zones and focus on the events that spawn lots of foes, such as joining the seraphs to retake Harathi areas. 75.37.22.89 19:49, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Does Death refer to downed or defeated?

Im 99% sure its defeated as ive got this achievement and have been downed many times :P Spark-TBa 09:11, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
When you are downed, you are still fighting, i.e. not dead. Death = defeated. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:19, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
To those who have trouble with this achievement; I got this by accident by crafting. Experience gained by crafting levels is percent-based of your current character level: a level 80 character gains 1-4% of that level (1-4% of ~250k). My character was about crafting level ~287 in jewelry and when I got to ~340 I got the achievement. If you can have a character never use crafting, at level 80 getting two crafting traits up to crafting level ~100 (from 0) should give it to you immediately. I'd say this method is extremely easy compared to GW1 Survivor. Lancour 12:52, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
From having a look at the ingame Archievement Window I assume this titel no logner exists, no? 92.214.168.117 17:57, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Found an actual bug on this an hour ago: If you get forcefully moved to a new instance because of low player count - it breaks. I was at 97% (of 500'000xp) when the game forced me into a more populated instance. That's so unfair! There's literally nothing I could have done to prevent this! ;( 212.181.159.170 23:57, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

Hint Completion Incomplete[edit]

My hint book shows that all hints are complete, but I haven't gotten the achievement. It says that I have completed 81/82 hints. Is there some secret hint or is my achievement just bugged? Kcinshin 06:06, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Stuck for me on 81/82 as well. It seems that either there was some removed hint during development or there is some hidden hint I don't know about that isn't listed in Hints window. I counted the hints in the window mentioned - it's in fact 81 of them.
Faalagorn/ 19:00, 4 September 2012 (UTC).
It's the same for me, but with 80/82. If someone has 82, it'd be nice to know what they all are. --Sahjiarah 01:59, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Do you need to play all the different classes to unlock all hints. Mine is pretty low. So maybe hints from different classes? Or do you need to do sPvP. I think WvwVw unlocked some for me too but never tried sPvP until now. - lordmd 16:31, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, you do. You need to play each one of 8 classes. I suggest you create each character and play it until all the class abilities are unlocked. With the exception of ranger, who needs to have at least 2 pets, they should pop up while doing the tutorial.
Faalagorn/ 20:16, 8 September 2012 (UTC).
I've done all that and yet still no completion. I'm at a loss for what to do. I've checked the hint pages for all classes and they all show to be completed. - Kcinshin 20:57, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Just wait until it'll be fixed eventually. It seems that no one can complete it at the moment. You may fill the in-game bug support, to maybe speed the fix up a bit :).
Faalagorn/ 01:49, 13 September 2012 (UTC).
I just realized that someone seems to have the achievement unlocked. It's still a bit oddity since it seems to be only 51 hints, and I don't have the achievement as well. Needs a bit research, I left MithranArkanere a message about further details about this oddity :).
Faalagorn/ 13:08, 13 September 2012 (UTC).
(Reset indent) I've documented all of the hints, since the panel shows all the hints, even those that you haven't discovered. I actually see 83 total hints, where the achievement only says 82 (but it says I only have 77 unlocked, where I count 78, so obviously one of them doesn't count). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 05:10, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
I have this issue too, I show 81 of 83 hints complete, I am missing the trebucet one in WvW, and the mail box full one. I now have 3 toons that have never opened or read their mail. I show 15 unread and have passed that mark for sure (completing hearts). I'll try in a bit to get the trebucet one and see if the mail one is the one not needed. (this is annoying, it shows up in the summary page as one of my top 3 closest, my other two are minipets {costs big money} and mad king stuff (so wait to next Halloween}, so the summary page is kinda useless to me.)Yoe Dude (talk) 19:44, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Heart mails don't count because they don't add to the X/10 counter in your mailbox. They pretty much have to be mail from other players. Want me to spam you? ;) —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:40, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Spent an hour with a treb, no hint =( Please spam away =) Yoe Dude (talk) 21:10, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Try the trebuchet in Heart of the Mists - the hint is in the PvP section, not the WvW section. Pretty sure that's where I got it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:30, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

I can't seem to get guardian hint to appear. Does this only appear if you have used the guardian skill already? I've been playing on guardian for about an hour now... Serena sedai (talk) 02:53, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Moving the page[edit]

To follow up the other pages, like Hall of Monuments (achievements), Activities (achievements) and World vs World (achievements), I'm gonna move the page now to Hero (achievements). Letting to know in case someone have any questions, or any problems arise. We should also change links in other articles to avoid redirections.
Faalagorn/ 18:35, 4 September 2012 (UTC).

Changing links to prevent redirects actually tends to use more server load than the redirects themselves do if left alone. I'd dredge up the original discussion I had on the topic, but it's buried somewhere on GuildWiki and I doubt even Entropy magic could find it now. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 01:59, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
It's not to save server load, really, it's so that links point where they're supposed to. Disambiguation articles and redirects are only retained to assist people searching for something; links in articles should not use them. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:39, 13 September 2012 (UTC)
I never thought of the server load really, but as an end user I never liked the fact that the URL pointed to the redirect page, and that there is this little "(Redirected from XXX)" beneath the page name. Oh, and speaking strictly of the Hero (achievement) page, I guess it may be deleted if nothing no longer links to it.
Faalagorn/ 12:49, 13 September 2012 (UTC).

Personal storyline acquisition section[edit]

Since all achievements that are in "Personal storyline" table are unlocked upon completing one of the few quests from personal storyline (multiple ones, depending on character creation and choices) listing every one of them only increases page size and length without really making it clear. Since the table is small, maybe we should just add additional column to it with the information on which quests to do on them? Or if someone have better ideas, feel free to post them too (for me, the whole acquisition sections on achievement pages make them a bit long, but I don't have any idea how to "streamline" it, yet).
Faalagorn/ 12:54, 13 September 2012 (UTC).

Been there done that[edit]

So I'm 1 map area from finishing all the explorer titles, I already have done 100% world completion and all the jumping puzzles, but I'm at 97% on this title... What exactly is the criteria for completing this? 87.195.101.155 12:31, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm also at 100% world completion (and have 5 areas left for the explorer titles, and 3 jumping puzzles I haven't done), and I'm also at 97%. I was thinking maybe it involves dungeons (I've only done Ascalon Catacombs and Crucible of Eternity) and/or personal story (I'm up to Victory or Death). Nothing else really comes to mind. What's your status on dungeons and personal story? Or anything else you can think of? - Tanetris 20:54, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
I've done all the story and story mode dungeons, along with maxing 4 crafts, so unless the explorable modes are needed (Ugh) that's not the issue. I'm thinking bug (Especially since the char screen shows my char at 98% but the badge at 97%) 87.195.101.155 20:59, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Agreed with your ugh. I've only maxed 1 craft on that char (and 1 on another), so I don't imagine that's involved. Yeah, unless it's something totally off the wall like keg brawling, bug's about the only other idea I can think of. - Tanetris 21:12, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
Relevant forum thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/100-world-completion-bug/page/3 - Tanetris 21:27, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
World vs World? PvP? Hall of Monuments? The two latter does not seems to count, but maybe..? Or else it's dungeon on bug.
Faalagorn/ 12:19, 19 September 2012 (UTC).
WvW is required for world completion (Which I have) and I have 50 hom points (Besides that would mean no-one could ever 100% gw2 if they hadn't 100%ed gw1) 87.195.101.155 12:32, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
No, I just meant the area and POI that are in Hall of Monuments, not the achievements :). but that would be overlook anyway, since I think only people who linked their GW1 account have access to it.
Faalagorn/ 13:28, 19 September 2012 (UTC).

The text on this wiki page must be wrong. It says it includes Renown Hearts + Waypoints + Points of Interest + Skill Points + Vistas + Chantry of Secrets + all Racial Capitals + LA + WvW maps. I have done 100% of all those things. I have gained 100% World Completion, plus gained 100% of every Explorer track. Yet, it still says I am 97% on my Hero track. So there must either be more to it than the Wiki page currently says, or there is perhaps a bug. --User BunnyBomb 1.pngBunny - BunnyBomb Talk 19:40, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Replying to myself here, because (with a little maths and checking of previous patches) I believe I have found the root cause of the 97% issue for this achievement. The issue stems from a previous patch to change the Explorer achievements which are linked to the Been There Done That achievement. I have written up my findings on the official forums.--User BunnyBomb 1.pngBunny - BunnyBomb Talk 21:44, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
....and now it is fixed! As of the patch today, the maths is working correctly again, based on the correct total of 747 visible areas within the Explorer title track. Thank you Arenanet! <3 --User BunnyBomb 1.pngBunny - BunnyBomb Talk 17:19, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
The character maybe but the badge is still showing 97%... 87.195.101.155 18:04, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Never mind, relog fixed it 87.195.101.155 18:12, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Local Hero[edit]

I'm confused by the Local Hero title track. It says you have to complete 500 Hearts to complete the achievement, but there are only 301 Hearts in the world. Also, I thought individual "Hero" title tracks were not account wide. So does this make sense? --User BunnyBomb 1.pngBunny - BunnyBomb Talk 20:47, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

It's account-wide. - Tanetris 22:14, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

Feedback 2015/10/27[edit]

The list of what gives mastery points seems wrong. For example, personal stories are listed and when I do them I only get the AP (I tested a norn track I had not done yesterday to verify that one and they do not show up as AP in the interface at all). --192.188.252.112 12:15, 27 October 2015 (UTC)

I made some corrections to this, to put it in sync with the in-game display (in the hero tab of the achievements panel), but it still seems high. Per the game, I should have been given 17 MP, but I've only gotten 11. Unless I'm missing something... Djaquay 21:32, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

According to the dev post [1] each race's Chapter 1 Personal Story achievement will not give one Mastery, but just the first that you do, If I understand correctly. Although I think it makes absolutely no sense and it is a bad decision and it's not made clear in the interface which is a major no no. But I do see clues that he might be right, since different people when looking at their achievement panels seem to see different things. Someone saw and put into this wiki that the 3 Chapters (1, 2 and 3) achievements for sylvari each give a mastery point, but in my interface, where I have done all asura ones, the sylvari ones I have not yet done do not show that they will give me a mastery point. Although the ones I DID do show a mastery point earned, but if I count all earned I am missing points, so perhaps that is another issue with the interface and all achievement that could give a mastery when completed show that they gave one, when perhaps they didn't? This is a mystery and it will not be clear until these issues are fixed I believe... --181.47.70.226 15:49, 8 December 2015 (UTC) - KillerRabbit --KillerRabbit (talk)

It's a UI issue that's a pain to document. The game did not keep track of which race was first completed per chapter prior to HoT. This is why we should document all achievements that can give mastery, and add a note that only the first racial completed per chapter 1-2-3 grants a mastery. Regarding the "missing" points, here's a list of non-racial hero achievements that give a mastery:
  1. A Friend In Deed
  2. Been There, Done That
  3. Dungeons Discovered
  4. Master of Heroics
  5. Savior of Tyria
  6. The Cost of Victory
  7. This Far, No Further
  8. Defending History, Informing the Future / Some Must Fight, That All May be Free / To Know the Unknown
Here's the list of racial hero achievements that can give a mastery point:
  1. Graduation Day / For the Legion! / Crime and Punishment / Rising to the Challenge / Waking from the Nightmare
  2. Legacy Code / Bloodying the Past / Family Reunion / Things Best Left Behind / A Season of Growth
  3. Something Lost, Something Gained / From Howl to Silence / Storming the Castle / Brawn over Brains / Branching Out
Together, that's 11 mastery points from Hero achievements.
Edit Added 2 more to the above list that I generated the list using SMW. Because we didn't document "Defending History, Informing the Future" / "Some Must Fight, That All May be Free" / "To Know the Unknown", I didn't realise that those 3 are also affected like the racial chapters. This is more reason to document what can give a point. --BryghtShadow (talk) 00:11, 9 December 2015 (UTC)
