So glad this was included. For me, the FDS is one of the most iconic Guild Wars weapons. Arshay Duskbrow 07:33, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

Although I was never particularly fond of the FDS, I agree, it wouldn't be GW without it. EiveTalk 08:19, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
I'm going to play a human with this and...uhm...what was Rurik's armor color? (God dammit color-blindness, ruining my jokes.) Anyway, I'm going to dive into pools of charr ranting about how as a boy I spent much time in these lands. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 08:34, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
If you did, I would have my charr in the Black Citadel inform the entire town that some Krytan prince is running around Ascalon. EiveTalk 08:39, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
If I'm diving into pools of charr, I think they'd already know. -- Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png 17:49, 11 October 2010 (UTC)
You always have to ruin everything, don't you? Fine, I'll go tell Kralkatorrik that you're having a party and he wasn't invited. That's sure to stir up some unwanted business. EiveTalk 02:46, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
wont these be useless vs destroyers? it'd be better if they wernt stuck on fire dmg -.- Getefix 18:40, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
Considering this is essential a starter weapon, you should have upgraded by the time you reach Destroyers. And you'll still be able to swap weapons as easily as GWI if you know what you're going into battle against. There were, after all, flame hilts in the original--but only idiots fought Titans and Destroyers with them. I highly doubt it'll be an issue, Gete. --Sy 18:42, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
There is no auto attack (skills do damage) and there is no more damage types, just damage. So I don't see a problem. 91.82.212.231 18:49, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
starter weapon? says who? gimme the source :P apaprantly (dunno where from) these level up with you? im not sure myself Getefix 18:51, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
You WILL be able to raise the power of HoM reward equipment as you gain power, so no, it is not just "starter" equipment. Arshay Duskbrow 00:15, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Arshay, you're about half right. While yes you are able to increase the power, they are designed to initially be starting weapons... "Any items are low level, so they can be worn by low level characters, and a mechanism, possibly an item similar to a transmutation stone, would be used to allow these items to improve as the player levels." Aqua (T|C) 00:22, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

it is not just "starter" equipment Arshay Duskbrow 01:12, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Flame Color[edit]

Just a shame that you can't dye weapons on GW2, with the new system wich allows you to dye different part of an item, it would be cool to "dye" the flame of this weapon and go Jedi. It would be cool to see it with blue or dark green flames, but I wasn't a fan of the standard look of it :( Lokheit 20:24, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

cant change the colour of the flame in gw1 - just the handle Getefix 16:35, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
What I said is that with the new system in this game, it would be possible as dye aplies for parts on the same item.Lokheit 18:37, 13 April 2011 (UTC)
Also, in the beta of GW2 last weekend, I did notice an NPC who had a Icy Dragon sword (or at least a blue dragon sword) in the Norn area. I don't remember his name. Img hereIzodn 22:43, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Are those Ice Imps? Cause they dropped it in GW1! Coincidence ? :O Lokheit 05:39, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Trivia[edit]

"These swords have become almost unheard of in the last 100 years."

is that true if it only takes 10 HoM points to get it? 80.101.53.40 16:30, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Sarcasm, huh. Yeah, it takes 10 HoM points. :P Ge4ce-Talk-Contribs 16:33, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
lol i can imagine a hell of a load of people going round with them - unheard of in the last 100 years huh? well, theyve got to have gone somewhere... Getefix 16:36, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Well maybe there's a hidden cache of weapons somewhere with only FDS' and Rytlock wields Sohotin so it's definitly not unheard of. One thing is certain, they're not gonna be rare in Guild Wars 2 :P Sjacie User:Sjacie 08:15, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
There WAS going to be a hidden FDS production factory inserted somewhere in the game, but the devs are quoted as having run out of time. SarielV 20 x 20px 21:02, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
Or it might just be a joke about the time it took them to make GW2 since GW1... 83.82.86.117 11:50, 25 February 2012 (UTC)
I think you guys are overestimating how many players, out of the total number of players, will be running around with FDS. I mean first off, there are likely only a few tens or hundreds of thousands of people with 10 points in Hall of Monuments. Some of them won't even go on to GW2, some of them won't like the FDS, many of them will prefer other swords for a number of reasons, and many of them may never even plan to use single-handed swords on any character. I predict that GW2 will equal or surpass the amount of players WoW ever had, and with only a few tens of thousands of people using FDS, that's not a very big ratio. 174.35.247.117 23:15, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Special Effect[edit]

Fighting enemies with a Fiery Dragon Sword sets them ablaze when they die. 192.168.104.31 14:16, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

I added it along with the fire damage note. Fire damage type is listed to the right of your sword's damage, in brackets. Just for the record. ----Metatail 20:13, 4 September 2012 (UTC) 20:57, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Icy counterpart?[edit]

Is the Icy or even Vampiric Dragon Sword in this game? I searched the wiki but they don't come up. Has anyone seen one though? I've seen the Icebrood warriors wielding them in one of the norn areas.

maybe you can craft one in the mystic forge maybe its worth a try with FDS, crystal shards, coins and icy stuff. I hope to find a recipe in the future, loved the icy skin as hell in gw1... adalbern also has an icy one in AC story, so its implemented. Maybe it does some extradamage to destroyers, same as fiery on ice elementals --Jora Jorasdottir 18:20, 30 September 2012 (UTC)
Icy Dragon Sword is the sword you're looking for. Velvet Tears 06:30, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Dying animations[edit]

It's my impressions that foes receiving their death blow from this sword are not only set on fire, but also display a different, generally more theatrical, animation. Spiders and devourers do not curl up their legs, but go flat on their belly with their legs spread out. (Fire Legion) Charr display an enamouring cute show that ends in them putting there paws before their eyes (/sad ?) before falling down. There might be more difference, or perhaps they're not unique or related to the sword, but these stood out straight away. Amy Awien 15:48, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes, it's the same animation if you killed them with most other "fire" based attacks, like Fireball. Fire, lightning, and ice attacks generally cause noticeably different death animations. You should try killing a Rabbit with ice attacks sometimes. It's absolutely hilarious. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 16:11, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
This is related to the damage type of the killing attack; the default is set by the weapon skin (99% of which are Physical, INCLUDING TORCHES), and particular attacks appear to override it. Only some Legendaries and the FDS inflict non-physical damage as their base type. SarielV 20 x 20px 21:06, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
