Perhaps it should be noted that it's possible that over the past 250 years the Ebon Vanguard turned into Ebonhawke? Pure speculation, although both are similar in name and made up entirely of Ascalonians, so it's not that much of a stretch, not to mention the Ebon Vanguard was always by itself doing its own thing. I don't know, and frankly, I don't care. This isn't in some obscure way paying homage to some '80's TV series or something. Ebonhawke is an original name, probably based on the Ebon Vanguard, and -hawke being derived from some Latin word or something. Calor 17:17, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

While perhaps only a coincidence, Ebonheart is an imperial stronghold in TES 3 Morrowind which is protected by the Hawkmoth Garrison. The idea that the Ebon Vanguard (which was an elite organization that worked behind the Charr lines to the north) is now in charge of Ebonhawke (which was a fortress to the south) is pure speculation. Just because the word "Ebon" occurs in both names does not necessarily connect the two. It is unknown if the Ebon Vanguard even exist in GW2. The article Ascalon City states that King Adelbern's forces at Ascalon City were cut off from the Ebon Vanguard, and after the Battle of Ascalon City the survivors of the city fled south to Ebonhawke. If the Ebon Vanguard were at Ebonhawke and they were cut off from Ascalon City, how could the survivors have fled to the group from which they were militarily cut off? The very idea seems to be absolutely untenable. The Ebon Vanguard could not have been at Ebonhawke. They were at the Eye of the North to the north of Ascalon, not at Ebonhawke in the south. Please do note, however, that it is mentioned (somewhere, I'd have to scrounge around for the link) that the Ebon Vanguard were recalled from thier post in the Eye of the North. It also says in the current article that Gwen (as captain of the Ebon Vanguard) and the rest of the Ebon Vanguard were sent to Ebonhawke. I am not sure of the origin of this information, however, as no link is provided. Also, I recall that Keiran Thackery's team was called the Ebon Hawkes... or was that the Ebon Falcons?... - ThatOneGuy 07:09, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

You should note that the above discussion was before the Ghosts of Ascalon novel came out, and all the information you discuss comes from the Ghosts of Ascalon or Guild Wars Beyond - and Thackeray's unit was the Ebon Falcons. -- Konig/talk 20:04, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

I hope they use some of the original concepts for the great northern wall on this fortress. If the prophecies art book the wall was absolutely gargantum (however u spell that word that means fantasmaly huge. Hey i mean if its holding out vs the charr army why not make it spectacular? Being able to explore the city in full detail itself would be leet of anet...kinda like its own little "pre searing" area. As i understand it, divinities reach is supposed to be a grand spectacle as well.--Justice 19:09, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

Have you seen the GW2 trailer yet? I'm not sure if it's supposed to show Ascalon before the Searing, but there is a hell of a big city that looks like it. Hopefully they put at least as much effort into Ebonhawke. Oh, and the word you were looking for is Gargantuan. Paddymew 21:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Does anyone else hear warning bells when they read the source saying Gwen established Ebonhawke? It's not an official announcment, more a re-cap article, and it calls Gwen an Elementalist. I am unconvinced. 122.148.39.152 11:34, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

I have little doubt that she and Thackeray will establish Ebonhawke, but that is exactly what I kept thinking about, did they really screw up and call Gwen an elementalist rather then a mesmer? Taros 12:33, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Just above the statement where it is said how Ebonhawke is established, it says "Here’s the exclusivostatement about the upcoming War In Kryta event. There were a whole lot of ®s and ™s in this, but I’ve taken them out to protect innocent eyes.", so it seems to be an exclusive. The fact that it says "For more information on Guild Wars and the War in Kryta, please visit www.guildwars.com.", the fact an email about GWBeyond arrived to a friend way after this, and the fact that it seems to have exclusive screenshots (which were also presumably given to gamespot, as it not only has those but has these screenies as well, which feature situations that are not (to my knowledge) recreateable in game, giving the impression they were sent by ANet) all seem to indicate that it's more than just a "recap". --Santax (talk · contribs) 15:20, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to err on the side of caution and wait a little bit. Calling Gwen an elementalist sounds like the noobiest of errors - ArenaNet have made mistakes in their time, but that one's just too crazy for them to make. Please also realize that this is a single typed error-- if it were repeatedly made, then it would be a huge mistake, but honestly; typing elementalist by accident in stead of mesmer? ANYONE can make a mistake like that-- just get some worker early in the morning who hasn't yet had their coffee and is thinking about elementalist designs when they respond, and boom there you have it. :D I think it is possible this is real and just a simple and understandable mistake, but of course there is the chance this is fake.
