Wrong page for that, I think. SarielV 20 x 20px 06:38, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

Combo Note(not really worthy of the main page)[edit]

Crest and Orbs can be used together for the same gem. 3 of one type of crest, 3 of one type of gem, and 3 of one type of gem with the dust works. You can even use sets of the same type broken up into groupings to be inserted into the forge slots. XeroKitsune (talk) 11:03, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Doubloons[edit]

Any doubloon will work. Copper is much cheaper. Pallaeon (talk) 18:33, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

I absolutely must verify this when I get home. SarielV 20 x 20px 21:19, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Feedback 2015/11/09[edit]

Any ORB/Copper/Crest combination work. I placed Dust with Sapphire + Beryl + Coral Orb together to get Amalgated gemstone --77.77.243.166 01:00, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Holy Combinations Batman[edit]

I'm not sure why suddenly every single combination is now listed to get these, I thought it was much simpler with the example of four that was listed before with the A Pile of Crystalline Dust can be combined in the Mystic Forge with 3 stacks of 3 crests, orbs or doubloons each; the individual stacks might or might not be comprised of the same item line. Curious to know if we can just go back to that and reword it slightly to say "example" or if all combos really need to be listed. (This is mostly for those browsing while mobile, because clicking the 'show' for all the examples and the scrolling might be a bit of a pain in the butt). - Doodleplex 17:06, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

I second this. The way it's shown, I thought all three stacks needed to be identical, but I've verified that this is not true by mixing Ruby Orbs and Sapphire Orbs. -dangerCake (talk) 22:14, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Acquisition[edit]

I seem to recall seeing somewhere that ANet wants to ease the acquisition of these. Does anyone have a quote? As it is, these things would run you close to 600g for the stack you need to make a legendary... This includes none of the other crazy shit you have to do/get for it! Yes, in March 2016, a dev said "We do think there is a problem with amalgamated gemstones, but it’s somewhat complicated and we’re still looking at the best way to address it." https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Dev-quotes-from-Reddit/6023826
They addressed the problem by removing all future legendary weapons. Demand plummeted. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:05, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
New recipe - 25x orb + 25x orb + 25x orb + 5 glob of ecto = 10 gemstones
Easier on the mouse, hopefully also on the wallet.

Tried it 4 times, received 3x 10 AG and 1x 25 AG --20:16, 19 April 2016 (UTC)~

Feedback 2016/04/19[edit]

There is a new recipe that uses 3 sets of 25 orbs and 5 globs of ectoplasm to output 10 amalgamated gemstone.

There is also a chance with the single recipe to receive 5 amalgamated gemstone. --96.50.177.85 21:32, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Also, combining 4 items of the previous tier (such as ruby crystals, medallions, etc. can provide you with an item of the same tier, one of the next higher tier, or an Amalgamated Gemstone. -dangerCake (talk) 21:57, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Feedback 2016/04/20[edit]

the new recipe involving 25+25+25 orbs and 5 ecto has a rare chance of giving 25 amalgamated gemstones instead of 10, it happened just once to me by now. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 151.75.124.173 (talk) at 10:18, 20 April 2016 (UTC).

List of recipes[edit]

It is a bit of a stretch to say that the current list of recipes is all that is possible since there are at least 8000 different combinations possible. There is probably a better way of showcasing the types of combinations that is possible. --Intricity (talk) 16:03, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

It originally was just example of four possible ways with the" A Pile of Crystalline Dust can be combined in the Mystic Forge with 3 stacks of 3 crests, orbs or doubloons each; the individual stacks might or might not be comprised of the same item line" line above it, and then it went what I thought was overkill. Since I'm not entirely sure how the new thing with the ectos works, I'm going to leave it alone, but I do think we should probably go back to that. - Doodleplex 16:37, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
The ecto stands in place of the Crystalline Dust in the original combination, so it would double the combinations possible (with number of ingredients adjusted, of course). Because the three crystal combination has only a chance of creating an Amalgamated Gemstone, I'm not sure how it would be best to be documented. SarielV 20 x 20px 17:14, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
I think it would be a good idea to show a list of the prices of each gemstone the users can use:
Item TP buy price (1x) TP sell price (1x)
Crest of the Assassin.pngCrest of the Assassin
Crest of the Magi.pngCrest of the Magi
Crest of the Rabid.pngCrest of the Rabid
Crest of the Shaman.pngCrest of the Shaman
Crest of the Soldier.pngCrest of the Soldier
Azurite Orb.pngAzurite Orb
Beryl Orb.pngBeryl Orb
Black Diamond.pngBlack Diamond
Chrysocola Orb.pngChrysocola Orb
Coral Orb.pngCoral Orb
Ebony Orb.pngEbony Orb
Emerald Orb.pngEmerald Orb
Freshwater Pearl.pngFreshwater Pearl
Maguuma Burl.pngMaguuma Burl
Maguuma Lily.pngMaguuma Lily
Moonstone Orb.pngMoonstone Orb
Opal Orb.pngOpal Orb
Ruby Orb.pngRuby Orb
Sapphire Orb.pngSapphire Orb
Copper Doubloon.pngCopper Doubloon
Silver Doubloon.pngSilver Doubloon
Gold Doubloon.pngGold Doubloon
Platinum Doubloon.pngPlatinum Doubloon
Sorting the table by the sell column to get the cheapest price; 5 ecto + 75 copper doubloons = 21 Gold coin 55 Silver coin 45 Copper coin. That's at least 10 Amalgamated Gemstones, so the price each is about Gold coin 15 Silver coin 54 Copper coin assuming you received 10.
Comparing that with the Crystalline Dust version, which only rewards 1 Amalgamated Gemstone: Gold coin 58 Silver coin 94 Copper coin each. (No chance of 25x).
So it's already cheaper to use the new recipe... imo we should clone the existing hidden recipes, changing the second copy to use 3x 25 of each item plus 5 ectos. Don't bother showing all the possible combinations.. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:14, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
I've heard that you now have a chance to get more than 1 AG from using the old recipe, but I don't know how many or if it is true. You can also get a single AG from combining 4 orbs or T5 crystals. Seems like we need some seriously expensive research. SarielV 20 x 20px 19:49, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
I've gotten it myself. I used the standard recipe, and got 5 out. I don't know if other numbers are possible, though. 165.120.165.55 15:50, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
Okay I derailled the conversation a lot with my table. Doodleplex has raised the issue on my talk page that she thinks its too much to show the recipes on this page. Showing all the possible combinations of all the different type recipes would be nuts and clog up recipe lists without being useful. I'm personally happy with the two recipes showing up on pages like Crest of the Rabid - moving these to a subpage would probably be adequate. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:49, 18 May 2016 (UTC)
According to math, there's close to 5k combinations. If anything maybe make a subpage with examples of the different variations, but not list all of them, or just go back to how it was on this page with the example, just worded carefully? - Doodleplex 20:16, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Crystal and Orb recipe?[edit]

What are the recipes for these? I can't find anywhere on this wiki or otherwise, and they should be on this page as a method of acquisition.
Additionally, the mystic forging of Crystals (tier 5 gemstones) or Orbs (tier 6 gemstones) has a rare chance of producing an amalgamated gemstone.
User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:24, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
click Show. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:42, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
The crystal recipe is not there, by the way. Just found it, finally - combine 4 crystals or 4 orbs in the forge, and you have a teeny chance at a gemstone. Not worth it. Better to use jeweler to promote crystals and use the new 10x gemstone recipe with a chance to proc 25x. User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 18:43, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
Great i didn't read the question. I don't know what else we can do other than note its a mystic forge random output. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:56, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
Apparently you can include a Seal with your Medallions/Crystals and still get an AG. This probably follows promotion rules similar to rare/exotic gear. SarielV 20 x 20px 17:21, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

Orb + Ecto Drop Rates[edit]

I've made a few of these using the 10x Ecto and Orb Recipe and recorded the results:
3,598 forgings gave 41,560 Amalgamated Gemstone = 11.5508 each forging
That's (372 x 25) + (3226 x 10)
So about 10.34% chance of getting 25 instead of 10 (1 in 9.672 tries) Mystic Toothless (talk) 23:38, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

"made a few of these". Yes, in some world that may be defined as a few. Thanks for the data! G R E E N E R 17:49, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

4 Crystals rates[edit]

Based on this research:

  • 8000 Crystals forged until gone.
  • Orbs/Crests generated: 729
  • AG generated: 68
  • Number of trials (back-calculated): 2400
  • Orb promotion rate: ~30%
  • AG promotion rate: 2.83%

Question[edit]

Can I use 75 orbs split 3 ways and 5 ecto for the Bulk recipe? --24.19.192.152 21:54, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

If you have 25 of each of the orbs, yes --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 22:02, 8 October 2016 (UTC)

Feedback 2018/04/01[edit]

The wiki pages now have the Clippy paperclip image on every page making GW2 related comments. If this is intentional it is neither helpful nor amusing.

Happy April Fools! If you want to kill Clippy, you can click 'Disable C.L.I.P.P.Y.' at the bottom of the page, next to the disclaimers. —Ventriloquist 10:51, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

Feedback 2020/02/10[edit]

While this is clearly very rare, I just got an amalgamated gemstone while doing the daily mystic forger. I put in crystals: emerald, ruby, coral tentacle, sapphire, in that order if it matters. So that is another possible though highly unlikely means of acquisition. --71.246.248.60 00:24, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

FYI Zamaros rewarded me with 25 amagalmated gemstones using my specific recipe of 25 each of ruby, emerald and opal orbs. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.8.190.150 (talk) at 16:52, 25 December 2020‎ (UTC).

Congrats! Looks like you high-rolled the gemstone recipe! We have many, but not all, listed at the bottom of this recipe page, and they appear to give between 10 and 25. We don't list all possible recipe combinations, as there would be far too many. I wish you the same luck in your future rolls at the forge! Greener (talk) 18:10, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
