Walkthrough[edit]

Enter the instance and talk to Ftokchak. He will lead Skritt out of the cave while waves of Destroyers appear. Small Destroyer Crablings will spawn continuously, but are not tied to particular waves; instead, focus on the Destroyer Crabs, Trolls, and Harpies to advance the mission. Sometimes they will run out of the central area and attack Skritt fleeing for the exit, so check around the start if you are only fighting Crablings.

After defeating enough waves, the Destroyer Queen will appear. Standing near her causes burning, but otherwise she is not a dangerous foe. Deplete her HP while she is "near" the bomb (the area is pretty generous); if you get it right, Ftokchak will tell you he's setting the bomb off, so run to safety at the exit. Otherwise, the explosion will drop you into downed state, but there are no enemies left so it's safe to rally via Bandage. Talk to Ftokchak to finish the mission.

Dialogue[edit]

Upon approaching your mentor:

(depending on your order)
Tybalt Leftpaw: When I say that bomb is big, I mean the Iron Legion would consider it "regulation size."
Magister Sieran: I'm worried. All this tension in the air...something terrible is going on. Stay close.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: This place was a deathtrap even before they built a giant bomb.

When talking to your mentor:

Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: Nothing more soothing than waiting for a bunch of antsy, easily distracted skritt to build a bomb, is there? My hand just aches thinking about it.
Talk more option tango.png Where do things stand?
We've got the explosive powder and enough skritt to figure out how to turn it into a bomb. We just need to deliver the payload to the destroyer queen's nest.
Talk more option tango.png What if they attack us before we're ready?
We respond. Quickly. Our mission isn't just to save this skritt scratch, it's to recruit the skritt themselves to join our cause. Can't do that if they're dead, now can we?
Talk more option tango.png No, but I'd still like to have a backup plan.
We've only got the one: set off the bomb near enough to the destroyer queen to do real damage. It has to happen. If not in her nest, then as close to her nest as we can manage.
Talk end option tango.png All right then. Let's get ready.
Talk end option tango.png Easy, partner. We can do this.
Magister Sieran: This will be quite a volatile mix, and I'm not just talking about the bomb powder. Skritt, destroyers, and us, all under one cavern roof? Explosive!
Talk more option tango.png How's the plan coming along?
In progress. We've gathered the explosive powder and enough skritt to make sure they have the mental acuity to build the bomb. It's just a matter of time.
Talk more option tango.png What if the destroyers attack before the bomb is ready?
Then we get creative. Good thing that's our specialty, right? This scratch and all the skritt in it won't survive an all-out attack by the destroyer queen. And we still need them as allies.
Talk more option tango.png But what do we do, exactly?
I don't know, but that bomb has to go off, and close enough to the queen to take her out. If all goes well, that happens in their nest. If not... it still needs to happen.
Talk end option tango.png All right. Here's to hoping all goes well.
Talk end option tango.png And we've got a front-row seat.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: We're vulnerable. Every second we're not on the attack gives the destroyers time to attack us.
Talk more option tango.png What's the delay?
Well, we mustered all the skritt brains we needed and got the explosives. I don't think it's a delay. I just think a bomb this big takes time—time we don't have.
Talk more option tango.png Can we make it work in the time we do have?
We have to. The skritt won't survive an all-out destroyer assault. If we're going to save them and recruit them against the dragons, we need that bomb.
Talk more option tango.png What if the destroyers attack before it's ready?
We improvise. That bomb needs to go off near the destroyer queen and as many of her offspring as we can get... even if it doesn't happen exactly where we need it to.
Talk end option tango.png All right. Let's see what we can do.
Talk end option tango.png We'll be ready for them if they do.

When entering the cave:

Skritt Forager: Welcome back! Ftokchak is anxious to see you.

Upon talking to various NPCs:

Yiktuk: I want those destroyers gone. Almost getting killed once was enough for me: I'm not going foraging again until I'm sure it's safe.
Talk end option tango.png Stick close. It'll be safe once we kill the destroyer queen.
Vrackan: Will take a long time to catch up on our foraging after this. Even if the destroyer queen dies, we're all going to get a bit thinner.
Talk end option tango.png Better hungry in the short term than dead forever.
Tchkik: I'm not good at waiting. Or sitting still. Give me a goal and its location and let me get to work.
Talk end option tango.png You'll get your chance. I promise you that.
Btorr: Get ready to see my masterpiece. They'll be chittering about this bomb for generations to come.
Talk end option tango.png Oh, I'm ready. Eager, in fact.

Talking to Ftokchak (cinematic):

When preceded by The Hatchery:
Ftokchak: Ah! I am glad to see you. Yes. The skritt you rescued gave us the mental acuity to assemble a bomb. Our raid on the centaur camp was also a success.
When preceded by Thieving from Thieves:
Ftokchak: Ah. I am glad to see you. The raid on the centaur camp was a windfall of explosive powder, and the kin you rescued helped us assemble a potent bomb.
<Character name>: Ftokchak? You sound... smarter. I hope that's not an insulting thing to say.
Ftokchak: No. No, no. Skritt think better together, communicate better when we're together. That's why rescuing Tchkik's scouts was important. We needed the numbers to make this plan work.
Tchkik: Ftokchak! The outlying scouts are under attack! The queen is nearly here!
Ftokchak: What? It's too soon! The bomb isn't primed. Tchch-akk! We'll have to set it off here, in the village. Evacuate all unnecessary skritt!
When with the Order of Whispers:
Tybalt Leftpaw: We'll protect you. We'll give you enough time to finish the bomb. Please, be careful. Take it from me. Just keep your hands steady!
Ftokchak: Yes, we will defeat them. We'll claim vengeance for our lost brothers and sisters, and stop this threat here—no matter the cost.
When with the Durmand Priory:
Magister Sieran: Oh, no! Ftokchat, you have to ready the bomb. We'll defend you. Send as many of your people to safety as you can.
Ftokchak: Thank you. This is for the brothers and sisters they took from us. We will bury these destroyers today—no matter the cost.
When with the Vigil:
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: We'll protect you while you ready the bomb. If we should fail, skritt, I expect you to detonate that ordnance—no matter what.
Ftokchak: You have my word. This is for the brothers and sisters they took from us. We will bury these destroyers today—no matter what the cost.

After the cinematic:

Btorr: They are almost on us. What to do?
Ftokchak: Get as many of us out as you can. Then hold back the destroyers.
Btorr: I will die to keep them away from you, if I have to. Work quickly, old friend.

When the destroyers spawning:

Tchkik: Away—get away! Chik-tic-tarr-rrrrrr!

After fending off the first waves of destroyers and the queen spawns:

Ftokchak: The bomb is ready. Stun the queen! I'll activate the bomb!

After defeating the queen:

Ftokchak: Now! Let the destroyers be destroyed!

Cinematic:

Ftokchak: My people. My friends. All dead. Once was chatter and happy stories. Now, just silence. Too much silence.
<Character name>: I'm sorry, Ftokchak. Your people were brave. They died protecting their friends and family.
When with the Order of Whispers:
Tybalt Leftpaw: At least we were able to take out the queen and her eggs. I know this is hard to hear, but it is a victory.
<Character name>: Ftokchak, the Order of Whispers can't bring back your loved ones, but you can help us stop this from happening to others. We need allies like you.
Ftokchak: Destroyers hunted us below. We lost many. Ran here. Now, here they are. I see there can be no more running. My village will join your cause.
Tybalt Leftpaw: That was terrifying. I haven't been that close to an explosion like that since...
<Character name>: I know facing that bomb was difficult for you, Tybalt, but you were strong and brave. Many skritt survived, and the Order will be stronger for it.
Tybalt Leftpaw: I wouldn't have been able to do it if you weren't beside me. We should let headquarters know we have new allies. Let's get home.
When with the Durmand Priory:
Magister Sieran: At least we were able to take out the queen and all her eggs. That's a victory—not just for the skritt, but for all Tyria.
<Character name>: Ftokchak, the Durmand Priory exists to learn about dangers like this. If you join us, you can help spare others from this fate.
Ftokchak: Destroyers hunted us below. We lost many. Ran here. Now, here they are. I see there can be no more running. My village will join your cause.
Magister Sieran: These poor skritt. I've seen other creatures die to dragon minions, but these were such friendly little fuzzballs. It's a tragedy.
<Character name>: The skritt reminds me of you in a way, Sieran. Impulsive and reckless, but also brave. And they love life. Every bit of it.
Magister Sieran: A tremendous compliment, Explorer. Thank you. Come, let's report to Gixx and let him know that the Priory has some new friends.
When with the Vigil:
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: We killed the queen and all of her eggs. That's a victory. A hard one, but still a victory.
<Character name>: Ftokchak, we can't bring back your loved ones, but you can help us stop this from happening to others. The Vigil needs allies like you.
Ftokchak: Destroyers hunted us below. We lost many. Ran here. Now, here they are. I see there can be no more running. My village will join your cause.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: I underestimate these squeaking beasts. You were right, Crusader. No matter how small, every set of hands—or scrabbly claws—is important to our cause.
<Character name>: I guess old dogs can learn new tricks, eh, my friend?
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Watch it, pup, or I'll clip your tail. Let's get back to Almorra and let her know what we've discovered. This was a job well done.

Upon talking to Ftokchak and your mentor after the mission:

Ftokchak: Sad day, sad... but it would have been sadder without you. Thanks. We'll find a new place to settle, and then we'll help you fight dragons like you helped us.
Talk end option tango.png Then we still have a chance. Thank you, Ftokchak.
Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw: I'm glad Ftokchak can look past his grief to see the big picture. We'll need skritt scouts and infiltrators in our fight against the dragons. I just wish we could have done more here.
Talk end option tango.png I agree. Next time, we have to do better.
Magister Sieran: This is a real tragedy. I'm glad we kept Ftokchak and his tribe alive, and that they're ready to join us against the dragons, but to lose their home like this... it's just sad.
Talk end option tango.png I agree. Next time, we'll try harder.
Warmaster Forgal Kernsson: Losing Ftokchak's whole scratch pushes the limit of "acceptable losses." I'm glad we convinced these skritt to join our cause, but I wish we'd been able to save their home.
Talk end option tango.png The war is far from over. We'll get another chance to do this right.

My story[edit]

Set to Blow.jpg

We helped the skritt kill the destroyer queen, but their scratch was destroyed in the process. Ftokchak agreed to join our fight against the Elder Dragons once his tribe finds a new home.
