Hope You're Doing Well

Hello again,

I've been putting a lot of thought into what happened. It's been hard adjusting to life without Rose. Reading her journal gave me closure, and I can't thank you enough for what you did.

Without you, I would have gone looking for her and then suffered her same fate. As a token of my gratitude, I ask that you accept this gift. You are a driving force for change in this world. I hope the research in this book helps you and those around you understand Orr and its inhabitants.

No one else should have to get hurt in the pursuit of this information. I know you wanted me to have it, but the words will always be with me, as will Rose. That is enough for me.

—Dahlia

Day 1: My comrades have been caging Risen. They're trying to befriend them, but I don't agree with their methods.

Neither caging what you're studying nor attempting to befriend what you've caged will end in success. I can show them there's another way. These Risen are not animals. I'm convinced we can reach them.

Day 2: I can no longer take part in capturing these creatures. I need to learn more about their natural state. I plan to go deeper into the island.

Dahlia doesn't want me to go. She doesn't feel as connected to them as I do. We could so easily have become like them. Fortunately, we had the Pale Tree.

Day 3: Our Mother Tree strengthened sylvari willpower so we could refuse Mordremoth's corruption. I wonder, as I watch these wretched Risen, if they could get theirs back.

I'm not optimistic. They don't recognize words, much less reason. I haven't given up hope. There are those who have retained some intelligence. Perhaps that's where I should start.

Day 4: I've stumbled across what appear to be their leaders. The winged ones have a strange effect on the rest. They make the others more...alert?
Talk more option tango.png Read on.
It's as if they're sharing their intellect? It's hard to describe. They become a more cohesive unit when the winged ones are around. It's akin to the pack behavior of fern hounds.

Day 5: I traveled further inland. The architecture here is far more grandiose. It's truly a sight to behold. I'm amazed that the rise of Orr didn't completely reduce these monuments to rubble.

I've seen rope bridges near the waterfalls. They surely would have rotted under the sea. Could they be a more recent addition to the landscape?

Day 6: I barely made it out alive. I approached one of the winged Risen, hoping to speak to it, but the herd came charging at me. I fled as if my life depended on it. I messed everything up.

I've lost my bearings and have no idea how to get back. I'll hunker down under this wreckage for the night, but I'm missing my Dahlia. I can't wait to get home so she can scold me.

Day 7: What a naive fool I've been. I'm walking in circles now. I find myself back at the spot where I spent the night. My wound is throbbing. I'll stay here one more night to heal, then try again.

My little haven is surrounded by crumbling statues. There are no Risen in sight. Natural heat comes up through the ground, keeping me warm throughout the night.
