Noob

Noob, variously also N00b, nub, Newb and Newbie, is a term used to describe a person who is new to playing the game or continues playing like a new player after they should know better. It is a term is derived from Leetspeak and has become commonly used in gaming culture.

The use of Newb and Newbie is usually friendly and typically acknowledges that the player really is new to the game and their perceived shortfalls are forgivable because they are learning.

Noob, and other similar variants, is almost invariably used as an insult which should be roughly interpreted as 'you suck'. It implies that the target is ignorant of their own failures, blames others inaccurately or without reason and has failed to learn about the game. It is applied to players who have been playing for long enough that they really ought to understand or play the game better than they do.

Ironically, those who blame others inaccurately generally use the term "noob" when placing blame, resulting in the reflexive definition that a noob is someone who calls people "noobs."
