Togo took shelter from the wind and built a fire to warm himself. The student pondered the question for several hours.

Finally, the student stood. "Master, I think it will take great strength to cross the bridge. We have to hold on very tightly and pull ourselves up if our feet slide off."

Togo nodded. "You have the strength to go all the way across that bridge using only your arms for support and advancement?" "I don't know," replied the student.

The bridge leaped with each gust of wind. When the student reached for the rope, it jerked out of his hand. The student returned to Togo. "Master, I cannot hold onto the rope. We will never get across the ravine."

Togo smiled. "Now you know the limitations of your strength and the power of the wind. You are one step closer to understanding." "But what do we do, Master?" the student asked. "We wait."

Master Togo waited just before nightfall, when the wind died down. He and his student easily crossed the bridge. On the other side, Togo said, "What have you learned?"

The student laughed. "I have learned, Master, that when your opponent is stronger than you, it is good to wait until he blows himself out." Master Togo and his student continued on.
