Admins Please Consider[edit]

A guildmate of mine said that GW1 had a wiki where locations all had a picture of a map with a dot on it showing where things were. This seems much more useful than a picture of the location you are looking for (though both are handy). Please could you consider making this "Map with a dot on it" part of a standard page for a location?

Content[edit]

How do we know what to put in to Guild Warws 2 wiki?

If every one is cavalier about GW2 entries then are we not at risk from creating a lot of fiction rather than a repository ot fact?

How do we discover new stuff about GW2 to add to the wiki?--Stu 10:31, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

When GW2/GW2beta comes out, or news about GW2 comes out. Cress Arvein User Cress Arvein sig.JPG 22:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

As there is no offical release date for GW2 beta doesn't that kind of make the GW2 wiki defunct? After all we already know as much as we can do (which is't much). If we can't add any thing else to the wiki until the beta comes out then there is little point in me checking it every day then? --Stu 13:14, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

New stuff comes daily from interviews and people adding stuff that other people missed so basically every week come and see because we get information from a-net every Wednesday now.--♥Icyyy♥ 01:37, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Biggest Way to help[edit]

The biggest way to be able to help this wiki is to NOT have the attitude that many of the users and/or admin on GWW seem to have. They preach AGF and do not follow it except when it suits them. A person should not have to justify keeping good information on the wiki. Rather, the person trying to have it removed should be the one justifying their request. Obviously, vandalism does not fall under this idea. 69.183.22.23 15:48, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

The GW2W community is different and less packed compared and has AGF covered for the most parts. We hope to carry on with this stance as it appears to work. - Infinite - talk 15:58, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

does this page need updating?[edit]

Hey guys, Anet just linked this page on Facebook. Since it's probably going to get a lot of views now, I'm just wondering if it needs any sprucing up. I'm not really good with high-level policy-esque type pages like this, but I'll at least fix anything that's obviously out-of-date or incorrect. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:31, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Restucture for someone that just wants to get it done.[edit]

Changed the "How do I make an edit?" section to state clearly how to do this. Assuming the reader is someone that hasn't edited a wiki before and just wants to make a small correction and then get on with their lives. like me. This would give them the experience to "be bold" enough to be more regular contributors, if only small edits. Pulsicle (talk) 10:39, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Category Addition, Gallery Updating and more[edit]

Since I'm still very new to this whole Wiki code thing, I'm not sure how to add Category pages. Like there's quite a lot of HoT Achievements, I was thinking perhaps instead of all linking them to the Achievements page that they go under a Subcategory for HoT or perhaps per Map? However I have a.) no idea how to make a Category page and b.) afraid of if I did, of breaking something. So how do you add categories and or sub categories or is that an admin only thing?

Also I was browsing around on the Wardrobe pages to see what skins I'm missing and they're not quite right, for example http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wardrobe/Staves says there are only 113, when last I checked I thought it said 120(Nevermore, the Raven Staff and the Timekeeper staff for example aren't there) and there are icons missing and I haven't any clue how to add them to that page. So uh, help please? =x

Lastly how do you edit things like Gem store tables on pages? Like take Golden Feather Wings Glider Combo for example. Say it was the wrong price, how do you edit that? I'm baffled. - Doodleplex 20:50, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Concerning the Gem Store templates, you can change the prices over at Gem Store by changing | cost = x (x = price in gems; no commas). It works similarly with other parameters. Is there any page where the price is incorrect? I usually double-check everything... User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 09:29, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
(Edit conflict)
Categories: Adding categories is easy, you just add [[Category:My new category name is bob]] to the bottom of a page. However in most cases we let the template add the category to the page rather than adding it directly (e.g. Template:Achievement nav has [[Category:Achievements]] at the bottom of it). Any page that uses the template will thus be put in the "Achievements" category.
Looking at your example though (Heart of Thorns achievements), you can find the lists of achievements via the navigator template at the bottom - there are the 4x Story Journal + 6x Heart of Thorns lists. I don't see why these 6 pages should be found combined in one category to be honest. There are however a few guide pages, e.g. Verdant Brink Insight: Canopy Over Pact Encampment, which are harder to find.
Wardrobe pages: the template used to get the results from Chat link format/0x0B codes, but we don't update those anymore and we just document skins using {{skin infobox}}. I hadn't properly updated Template:Wardrobe, it should now be finding any skins we have documented. If things are missing, they need to be documented!
Gem store stuff: If you hover over the "Gem Store" wikilink in the vendor acquistion table, you'll see it actually goes to Gem Store/Style#gemstore75. Following the link takes you to the page where the price is stored (the "#gemstore75" bit just scrolls your screen to the right bit on the page). If you then press edit, and search for (using CTRL+F) "Golden Wings Glider Combo" you'll see a line saying
| item = Golden Wings Glider Combo
| cost1 = 700
so you could change the gem cost from 700 to 800 gems by changing the value of the cost1 parameter to "cost1 = 800". -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 09:35, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Oh no worries, nothing was the wrong price, I was just listing things that I had no idea how to change because I was getting confused and I think I found an item once that was historical but wasn't sure how to change it. As for HoT I didn't mean the story, I meant all of the new map achievements like the strongboxes and Mastry points and such. I was hoping to make a new sub category for all of the Heart of Thorns achievements so that they don't get linked to the non-expansion achievements and people didn't get mixed up, but I didn't want to do anything if it would create more work for other people. So am I allowed to make a new sub category for Heart of Thorns map achievements or should I just use the standard Achievements category tag?
For the gallery I think I get it, for example precursor for Kraitkin isn't listed in the gallery page, so you just need to make a page for that skin and add that code(and a picture of course) and then all the galleries will be updated correct? I'm sorry if I have so many questions or get confused easily, I have a learning issue. =( - Doodleplex 18:02, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
I can't give a whole lot of details but I figure the view from a fairly new person might help.
For galleries, those things are coded for amazing convenience; they essentially build themselves so long as they are added/formatted in the 'proper' way. If there is an issue with them not loading up, take a look at what shows up and how they are different from what you are trying to add (usually a name discrepancy).
With regards to prices/costs, I've noticed so far that the table holding the prices is usually where the item is sold. So if you see a price you think is wrong, but hitting edit doesn't show the price table; go to that npc's (or whatever's) page and you should find the price list there.
This might not be a great in-depth view of it, but it's how I've gotten around pretending I know what is happening :/ -Darqam (talk) 18:24, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Sorry Darqam, not really. =( Right Now I've added several skins but they're not showing up at all in the wardrobe nor the galleries, though the category seems to be okay. For example http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Trident_skins now links 82 Trident skins, and there are 82, but Gallery of tridents is only showing 81 and the Wardrobe/Tridents is still only showing 80. I copy-pasted the code from images that were already there so I don't understand why it's not updating. (And yes I refreshed my browser, cleared cache AND I waited this time). Help me Obi-wan Kenobi GW2 Wiki admins, you're my only hope.
Also if making a new category is like making a new page, then I think I understand, but I'm still verrryyy hesitant to do so for the HoT achievements (all of the map ones, not the story ones) before knowing that's okay with the admins as I don't want to create more work by putting in stuff that shouldn't be there. - Doodleplex 21:25, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
With regards to the un-equal amount of tridents, that is due to some not having associated images (at least between the two first pages you linked). Notice that all tridents have an associated gallery image EXCEPT Gold Fractal Trident. Thus no image will show up in that gallery image search query since it only looks for images, not if the page exists. I would *imagine* a similar thing is ocuring for the wardrobe page but I still need to look into that to be certain. -Darqam (talk) 21:56, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
Update: That wardrobe page depends on the 'skin infobox' being used. So if a trident does not have it's dedicated <weapon name (skin)> page, then it won't show up in that wardrobe page. I see that golden fractal trident is missing, but not sure what the other one is... -Darqam (talk) 21:58, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
Well I can't count, there are 80 skins in the gallery and the other missing skin in question is Venom Experiment (skin). Basically I KNOW if there is no page for the skin it won't show up in the weapon gallery but I made a page for Venom Experiment (skin) and it isn't showing up in Gallery of tridents and neither it nor Venom (weapon) are showing up in the Wardrobe/Tridents. Sorry Darqam, your'e really not helping me here, I think I need an admin or somebody who can look into this as I think it's something they can fix, not us which is frustrating for updating and not seeing stuff show up to know you're doing correctly. - Doodleplex 22:15, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
I'll add one last thing and leave it be for more experienced people. But I just hit the wiki refresh button for both those pages, and now there seem to be the ones you were talking about ;) Maybe things had just not updated yet? -Darqam (talk) 22:24, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
3 hours later? Dang, I thought updates would be a lot faster unless an admin is lurking somewhere. Well that still leaves me with the question about category for the HoT achievements... - Doodleplex 22:27, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
It shouldn't take 3 hours. I can normally push a skin update in under 10 seconds or so, usually it's ready by the time I change tabs. Make sure you're clicking update on the page which uses the information, not the one that's giving it (i.e. the Gallery of tridents and Venom (weapon) in this case). G R E E N E R 23:07, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
So creating a page for Venom Experiment (skin) won't immediately update on Gallery of tridents because the gallery is generated with a semantic query ({{Weapon gallery}}). The wiki caches query results every 24 hours. If you waited long enough, it'll pop up. You can force #ask queries on a page to update by doing a null edit: Hit edit, show preview, save without making changes.--Relyk ~ talk < 17:06, 25 June 2016 (UTC)
