Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Object formatting

From Guild Wars 2 Wiki

This article will explain the formatting practices and processes with regards to the documentation of objects. This includes resource nodes, mastery insights, bundles, and other miscellaneous objects found around the world.

Copy-paste versions of the pages can be found below.

Object infobox[edit]

Primary article: Template:Object infobox

Objects are described using the {{Object infobox}}. Basic parameters are outlined below; please refer to the template for a more detailed guide.

{{Object infobox
| name = <!-- Optional. Use if article name differs from the name of the object. Defaults to {{PAGENAME}}. -->
| icon = <!-- Optional. Use if the map icon of the object differs from the name of the object. Defaults to {{PAGENAME}}.png -->
| image = <!-- Optional. Use if the image of the object differs from the name of the object. Defaults to {{PAGENAME}}.jpg -->
| location = <!-- Semi-colon-separated list of areas (or instances if not in open world) the object can be found in. -->
| type = <!-- Type of object, e.g. resource node, bundle, chest, etc. Omit if not identifiable. -->
| req = <!-- Item required to interact with object, if applicable. For resource nodes, this is the minimum quality of tool required to avoid junk. -->
| gives = <!-- Comma-separated list of item(s) received upon interacting with object, if applicable. -->
| goal = <!-- Optional. Event or heart the object is associated with. -->
| interact = <!-- Optional. If the object can be interacted with by pressing F. Defaults to y. -->
| destruct = <!-- Optional. If the object can take damage and be destroyed. Defaults to n. -->
| coordinates = <!-- Used to generate a map of the object's location. Leave blank if unsure; omit if object is generic. -->
| requires = <!-- Optional. The expansion or living world season required to access the object. Displays a notice of the required release. -->
| status = <!-- Optional. Used to mark if the object is temporary or historical and does not exist in the current state of the game. -->
| gallery1...gallery5 = <!-- Optional. Displays up to five extra images; used for alternate models or maps. -->
| gallery1-text...gallery5-text = <!-- Optional. Text description of the above image. -->
}}

Other templates[edit]

  • {{Gather}} — Used to document items gathered from resource nodes and chests. Will cause other articles using the {{Gathered from}} template to automatically update.

Screenshots[edit]

Primary article: Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Image formatting

Screenshots help players better understand the article. It is not always necessary to take a new screenshot; many objects share their models with other objects, and their screenshots may be borrowed. An extensive catalogue of shared images can be found at the Shared Model project.

Screenshotting tips[edit]

  • Wait until daytime to ensure optimal lighting.
  • Turn your graphics settings to max.
  • Zoom into first-person mode.
  • Hide the UI by pressing Ctrl+Shift+H.
  • Select another NPC, object, or player standing behind you to avoid the green/red outline.
  • Save as .jpg

Dialogue[edit]

Primary article: Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Dialogue formatting

Some objects have dialogue upon interaction. If you have the dialogue but are unsure of how to include it, simply type the text as best as you can and save the page. A simple example has also been shown in the general copy-paste layout below.

Please refer to the dialogue formatting guide above for an in-depth explanation, and refer to {{Dialogue icon}} for a list of icon options.

Copy-paste layouts[edit]

These are suggested layouts for various types of object pages. If you're unsure about how to fill certain sections, it's okay to leave them out or put {{Section-stub|interactive-object}} in place of any text. Documenting on the wiki is an iterative process; we don't expect the first versions to be perfect nor complete.
