Guild Wars 2/FAQ

While it's a page with questions Anet answered, people keep on adding their own questions, even questions already in the list. Maybe you should make it a protected page to avoid futher confusion. --Sir Bertrand 09:08, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

There have only been 13 edits to that page in the last month (including regular edits), so I think for now we can deal with the problem without protecting the page. --Xeeron 17:20, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

84: The policies are what the sysops say they are. Now STFU! --Max 2 18:46, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Poke: Since you are going to discuss this, it should be moved off the notice page. Further: BULLSHIT – I have NOT reverted more than once according to the usual rules while you have. --Max 2 18:46, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
Poke: If 1RR were a rule, you broke it twice that I can see. Category:Image templates and Category:License templates. Try not to do that.
Mtew: On the other hand, if Gwiki's 1RV were the rule, you've broken it pretty much every which way from Sunday, plus you and the IP have broken 1RR twiceover each on :Category:Category. Lose the attitude and learn to accept that your view is not any more important than anyone else's.
IP: Don't discuss on the noticeboard and cool it with the reverts. - Tanetris 19:32, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Inaccessible page

There is a page on the Orphaned Page list with the title 'gw1:Guild Wars Utopia'. It should either be deleted or, if its contents differ from those on GWW, moved out from under the 'gw1:' short-cut. --Max 2 16:59, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

That was one of those pages that were created before the interwiki links were established; got it deleted with some tricks now. poke | talk 18:35, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Poke, what is official GW2W policy on importing templates and such from GWW? It appears that both use the same FDL, and as such, should be no problems. I am asking specifically because I would like to just copy the usertags I made on GWW and be able to use them over here. It would also be helpful to move a lot of the already designed templates over here for ease of setting up the new digs. I do not think that using the templates directly with interwiki would be a good idea in case they are not usable with the new game. They could be copied over here to get a starting point. 42 - talk 02:01, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
The GFDL also requires attribution, so you can't just copy and paste things from the other wiki. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 05:28, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

RFAs

I understand the reasoning of ANet in grandfathering (and grandmothering when appropriate :P ) the GWW admin, but I am interested in joining the admin side on GW2W. As there is no policy yet on this, what is the procedure? I would like to be able to help out now when things can be set up properly the right way first, instead of just using the same potentially bad habits already in use from GWW. 42 - talk 19:14, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

As we have no adminship policy yet, and not decided on anything related to that, there is no real procedure for that. Currently the administration team is kind of duplicated from GWW and we also have some administrators grandfathered from GuildWiki. Current practice is that the administrator status is more or less kept in sync with GWW. So you probably should start there. poke | talk 19:23, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
Many people (me being one of them) see this as being a separate wiki from GWW. And applying for sysop on GWW to be a sysop here, especially when I have no interest in being a sysop on GWW would be pointless. That is like trying to have an RFC for this wiki on GWW. It makes no sense. In case that wasn't clear, this is GW2W, not GWW. 42 - talk 03:24, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
It's perfectly clear, however this wiki is in somewhat of a holding pattern until user interest picks up and we have more of a user base to work with. Thus at the moment it seems that an approach has been taken to adopt established sysops from both GWW and guildwiki. However as your stated intent is to help set this place up and work on policies, I would like to point out that you don't need to be a sysop to do any of those things and the sysop tools don't really aid you in doing those things. Kind regards 77.99.216.110 03:51, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
For the few users who are predominantly interested in the GW2W, though, it'd be nice to have the power to actually clean up the wiki rather than bring it to the attention of an admin.-- Shew 03:54, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
I see three options: you could try to become a sysop on the other wiki to get grandfathered, you could try to convince one of the three current bureaucrats to promote you here, or you could wait until we have a formal sysop selection procedure. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 05:48, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
There are actually six Bureaucrats currently on GW2W, FYI. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 00:02, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
To be honest with you 42, there's nothing to do here. All of us sysops check in maybe once a day, take a look at deletion candidates, admin noticeboard, then go back to our anime and/or football games. You'd really be wasting your time asking for sysophood before Guild Wars 2 is at least slated for release. Felix Omni Signature.png 07:09, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Felix, I disagree regarding one specific point - right now, only sysops are capable of moving images. With the high influx of concept art files, each with a different name, being able to move those images around would really help. I asked to become a sysop a while ago (or rather, to be made an admin just to be able to use that feature), but I was denied with the explanation that Emily would work on it soon (and truth be said, it would be better if she changed the settings so everyone can move images, like on GWW, than just allowing me to do it, especially now that I'm busier than I was at the time).
But regarding 42's main point, that he wishes to help: right now, everything he can do to help (with the single exception above) can be done without being a sysop. Erasculio 15:38, 15 November 2009 (UTC)
Right you are, I had forgotten. Felix Omni Signature.png 18:28, 15 November 2009 (UTC)

Not that I expect anyone to do anything about it...

But a breach of NPA here. Erasculio 01:01, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

^_^ Yes, Pling, could we possibly come to an arrangement for this? I'm afraid Erasculio seems to forget that maintaining a wiki is a team effort, and major changes probably should not be made without consent of others. :D I'd gladly discuss this with others, and encourage others to join in so that we may come to a peaceful agreement regarding this problem, and create a much-needed solution. :D Thank you! 173.190.17.186 01:12, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Indeed, it appears a major part of a "team effort" is to have arguments consisting entirely on claiming someone is "ignorant". After all, trying to have a discussion without using insults is, clearly, outside the scope of the wiki. Erasculio 01:14, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Please, Erasculio, do not add hypocrisy to the list of your mistakes. :) You are well aware you can be very rude. SOMEONE needed to put you in your place. ^_^ I decided I would finally do it after all the things I had seen you do and say to people. But, like I said, I hold onto the hope that you may improve with time, and maybe even be a great team worker here. :D 173.190.17.186 01:16, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
I do wonder why do you think you could actually put anyone in their places. Erasculio 01:19, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Because I see your many flaws, and I am not insulting you, Erasculio, I am simply stating facts. ^_^ Ignorance is not irreversible, after all. Just open your mind a little more; you can do that by listening to what others think, or by asking how others feel about certain things. Anyway; goodnight! 173.190.17.186 01:23, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
As someone uninvoled in all this: I do wonder if you're trolling, Erasculio. You go ahead with a number of controversial changes, completely ignoring consensus, start an edit war, tell people they cannot read, condescendingly refer people who criticize you to a dictionary, ignore requests to let the community handle something, then post a complaint on the admin noticeboard when someone tells you your attitude stinks? NilePenguin 01:38, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it's all trolling. After all, it's a fact that Skritts are mammals, despite how we don't know their phisiology and how such classification doesn't matter anyway. It's a fact that the playable races are not really races, just species. It's a fact that consensus means "me and people who agree with me", not everyone who uses the wiki, so deleting the races category does not need the approval of more than a handful of users. And of course it's a fact that an user cannot possibly expect admins to follow the "No personal attacks" idea when an argument is replied with insults, after all that's not how the wiki works anyway. Erasculio 01:54, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
The categorisation issue is something you should solve through consensus on a wiki, even if yours is taxonomically correct. Just going around and editing every single creatures' page to edit your category in, in spite of the one revert rule, just isn't proper behaviour here. And if you do that, then reply in a condescending manner to people pointing it out, they will find you arrogant et cetera. This is much ado about nothing; just discuss your proposed change in the proper space, ask other people for a third opinion if necessary! I don't want to get more involved in this, though. Good luck solving this issue! NilePenguin 02:21, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
I have a sneaking suspicion many of these problems wouldn't be if most of the involved parties would stop being ridiculously confrontational. No angry mastodons. guys. 173, cut the condescension and baiting. Eras, you've been asked repeatedly to tone down the aggression level. Both of you can take some time off. Nile, the noticeboard is not an appropriate place for a rehash of the argument. - Tanetris 07:53, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

He did mention he doesn't care...

But it's likely that calling someone a complete assfucking bastard would breach the idea behind NPA. Erasculio 03:18, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Copying from wiki with incompatible license

Knighthonor (talkcontribslogsblock log) has been copying articles from WoWWiki: Area of Effect, Instance, Channeling (the links to the same articles on WoWWiki are at the deletion notices on those pages). Since that wiki has a different license, making such copies isn't allowed. Erasculio 17:34, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the report, deleted those pages. poke | talk 17:58, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

Is it possible to have this on this wiki? It is a useful tool, we have it on PvX and it makes moving pages a lot easier as long as you mention it to anyone involved. And would the community want it? --Odal talk 11:24, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

More NPAs

Ariyen (talkcontribslogsblock log) has been acting on bad faith and making multiple NPAs, such as "You're being Irresponsible, Irrational" and more recently on this edit summary. She has also ignored attempts to discuss the subject at hand here, and decided to thrown around baseless accusations (such as "removing FAQ, which to us belongs on the main page, isn't that a little nutty?", while the link to the FAQ is still right there on the editcopy page). Erasculio 02:34, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Plus here. Erasculio 03:28, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Ayren is at it again; after accusing me of being a vandal, she's accusing me of being a troll (see the edit summary) after a comment aimed at someone else. I would rather have something done now than wait until she gets carried away and forces the discussion to stop again. Erasculio 09:59, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

She was accusing you of baiting trolls, not being a troll. I don't really think it's an attack; if it is, it's very minor at best. However, I do agree that this has the potential to escalate into something else, so I've told Ariyen to watch herself and avoid attacking you. pling User Pling sig.png 13:16, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Oh, let's whine about the "little" stuff that you want to take "offensive". Ariyen 17:32, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Removing Important Information

Erasculio (talkcontribslogsblock log) is removing Faq from the Main Page/Edit Copy without consulting that two people state for it to be there (In talk, when he suggested removal). Ariyen 02:52, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Ironically, I haven't removed the FAQ from the Edit Copy; due to Ariyen's latest edit (which is another NPA breach by itself, and which I won't undo in order to avoid an edit war), the FAQ is being linked twice from the main page. Erasculio 03:10, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't think it's serious enough to warrant protection (and it's not just IPs removing the "yet to be confirmed" bit). No messages had been given to the users' talk pages either, so protecting now would be premature. pling User Pling sig.png 17:52, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Spoilers at the Recent changes page

Konig Des Todes (talkcontribslogsblock log) has been adding spoilers about Ghosts of Ascalon at the edit summaries of some of his edits (examples - spoilers for GoA, of course - here and here). I have asked him to avoid adding spoilers to edit summaries, since users simply looking at the Recent changes page may accidentally see those spoilers, but he has refused to listen. I would like to ask an admin to tell him to stop adding spoilers from the book to edit summaries (it's perfectly viable to explain edits at articles' talk pages instead) and to hide the two revisions above, in order to remove those spoilers from the Recent changes page. Erasculio 22:31, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Relevant to this part as well; Erasculio (talkcontribslogsblock log) has been trying to bait Konig again, as well as starting massive quotewars on his page. Konig, in fact, even asked Eras kindly not to,... 'Rekindle the ol' flame', so to speak.

Knighthonor

Knighthonor (talkcontribslogsblock log) is, perhaps unwillingly, vandalizing the wiki. A look at his recent contributions shows that most of them have been reverted, most images he uploaded have been tagged for deletion for one reason or another, and he's still being sloppy. We have to try to incentive contributions and all that, sure, but his edits are actually giving more trouble than helping, since someone has to fix the mistakes he creates. We need someone to tell him (preferably nicely, which is why I'm not doing it myself) to stop that kind of thing. Erasculio 03:03, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Just want to note that some of the recent images he uploaded that were deleted came from the necro videos when they were leaked and a "do not touch" issue from Anet - and he might not have known as Alice&Sven linked him to the videos before he uploaded them (and even I didn't know they were from a leaked video at first). Not saying whether this is for or against him, just making a note of it for others to say which way this info should be taken. -- Konig/talk 04:54, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
I looked at his most recent 100 edits. I commented on his talk page regarding with what I felt was relevant. His uploaded images are of poor quality, but they are images not found anywhere else on the wiki at the time of uploading. It would be different if he was uploading those images over better quality images. The only two seemingly red flags are the revert war he seems to have with Emmisary and this edit. Emmisary and Knighthonor have been warned regarding their reverting behavior and I will assume the Pommel Strike edit was in good faith. — Gares 14:37, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Requesting image move

Thanks to a mistake made by myself, File:2010 august event assist completed.jpg has the wrong name, but we cannot move it to the proper name since there's already something there, at File:2010 August event assist completed.jpg. I think, although I'm not sure, that sysops can move images past redirects like these, so instead of tagging it for deletion and then moving it, only to tag the move remnant to be deleted, I would like to ask a sysop to make the move. Erasculio 12:23, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Moved. There was a hiccup in the middle as the file itself didn't move along with the normal page history, but it was somehow possible to undelete the file at the new location, which fixed it. Anyway, it appears to be successful. pling User Pling sig.png 18:27, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Talk:Running

The Talk:Running article has been the target of a persistent vandal. It appears the article's creator has been employing proxies in order to pretend there are multiple users supporting his point of view, and so has been removing signatures (including unsigned tags) and trying to hide an edit in which he forgot to change proxies while pretending to be two different individuals. Comments have been made at some of those IPs' talk pages, but since they are likely throw-away proxies, those comments are not really going to have much of an impact. I don't like others getting in the middle of a discussion and the discussion with TheRing was cooled - we're cool and Kokuou is being hostile - in a manipulating way. 72.148.31.114 07:17, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

This is a community site, you cannot control who discusses with whom. Felix Omni Signature.png 08:48, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
I know, but shouldn't you all know when people are just trying to make issues worse, instead of being helpful to solve? Like rhetoric comments that's not necessary and is only there to cause drama or escalate drama by making disruptive criticism, instead of constructive criticism. I am being attacked in that this person is saying that I am telling people not to contact me on here, when it was email referred instead (more so than anything) - I don't appreciate this kind of disruption or accusations against me. Please, solve - I am tired of being disruptively criticized by this person and not see any helpfulness at all. I have seen poor grammar from this person as well. Please it's nothing but drama and I feel it'd be best removed. 72.148.31.114 09:08, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
Fellow admins, see my response here, add what you feel is necessary. Felix Omni Signature.png 09:32, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Recent Changes 11/1/10

So... I was wondering what the official stance is on 91.82.182.250 (talkcontribslogsblock log) and his entire page of edits. I see Pling has commented on Mr IP's talk page, but hasn't exactly said anything about it. I'm assuming we are allowing it, but is this how skill pages will be until further info? Also, shouldn't we document the energy cost somewhere? Sure, it is subject to change before release and affected by traits, but it is still info and deserves a mention. EiveTalk 23:58, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

IP obviously decided on a particular format and applied it. While wiki etiquette says he should have discussed it first, I don't particularly object because the formatting til now has always been what emerged from one person or other has applied to the pages (or subset there-of) without any real discussion going into it.
More sophisticated attempts at formatting have been discouraged because we don't yet understand exactly what aspects of a skill are variable. Energy, for instance, while it is true we have data points we could include on the pages, it is apparent that it is actually a percentage of the player's energy pool which is taken. But even then it isn't clear whether that percentage could be further changed by traits, for example.
I'm also of a mind that documenting the little things prior to release is a little counter productive because of inevitable balancing. Although it has been pretty quiet on the news front so those little things are starting to look pretty tempting. :) -- Aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 00:38, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Admins don't dictate formatting. This is an issue for the community at large. I suggest posting to a relevant talk page and putting up a request for comments - Tanetris 00:43, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

Ariyen (4)

Again, Ariyen is stirring up trouble. It's a small thing, but considering past events I would like to ask for admin action before the issue escalates. Erasculio 09:25, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

It's a discussion. get over it. 72.148.31.114 10:19, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Observation: No problem being stirred up? - Infinite - talk 11:14, 21 November 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't look like it needs admin intervention (preventative or otherwise). pling User Pling sig.png 17:30, 21 November 2010 (UTC)

RFA

I put up an RFA in my userspace and I want opinions on it. Thanks, Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 01:31, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Synching the main page

I would like to ask an admin to synch the main page with the edit copy; the discussion about the Wintersday theme has settled for a week days now, and taking longer to synch would eventually give us the Wintersday decoration only after Wintersday itself. Erasculio 16:58, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

I would say the discussion more died out than settled, but eh, good enough for me. Sync'ed. - Tanetris 18:54, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

File Deletion

This file needs to be deleted, as it is causing problems with the New Images gallery. (The actual page itself won't start loading; it needs to be deleted from editing mode.) Aqua (T|C) 23:03, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

The main bug issue (server loading problem)

[11:12] <Infinite> The server issues seem to be caused by the file size update of 17th August 2010. Uploaded files above 2 mB caused the server's intermittent loading issues.
[11:13] <Infinite> A revert to file size limitations and removal of the files above this quota should lift the main issue.
[11:13] <Infinite> I shall also leave this on the Admin Noticeboard.

I hope to see this resolved in the nearby future. - Infinite - talk 10:14, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Main page sync

A few days ago I noted that the design on the main page can cause unnecessary side-scrolling in its current state on smaller screens. This edit fixes the problem (the width of the welcome message was fixed, which is now a max-width option instead). Requesting to sync to that state. - Infinite - talk 00:11, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Infoboxes

I'm not sure if this is the proper place, but I would like to request that the infobox part of User:Aquadrizzt/monobook.css be added to Local.css to facilitate the use of the new infobox style and the recently consensus-approved skill infobox. Aqua (T|C) 16:46, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Thank you very much. Examples for all the styles are here, right? I'll go over the styles now to check if there is anything that can be omptimized. poke | talk 16:57, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

Edge of Steel

A couple IPs adding something about a Lady Gaga song over and over, probably trivia vandal. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 23:49, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Added a hidden note to the article. If the additions continue it can be protected. Felix Omni Signature.png 12:25, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Felix. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 19:55, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
Would it be possible for Edge of Destiny get the same treatment? Redshift 12:23, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Path of Scars icon

I tried to put the icon used for Staggering Throw in the slot for Path of Scars (as shown at http://gw2.revgaming.net/Home/video/ ranger video at 1:53), but couldn't get it to work and a file name got messed up. Adrian R 14:08, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

The path of scars file has to be deleted, and then the staggering throw file needs to be moved to the newly deleted path of scars file. --Xu Davella 14:21, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
Alternatively, re-upload the updated icon, and remove the one from staggering throw. --Xu Davella 14:22, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

NPA

If I remember right, there is something about personal attacks, right? Please see to it, that User:Ecksearoh is reminded about it and how should behave on the wiki. 91.82.64.100 21:44, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Warned. Will keep an eye if more than that is needed. Do try not to goad him though, just as a word of caution. - Tanetris 01:07, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

User:Dergne

He or she keeps blanking his/her talkpage, even after some interventions by other wiki peoples. Don't want to start a revert war. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 23:47, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

I've archived his talk page. It'll probably be counterproductive to keep reverting if he continues to blank the page - it's not particularly important. pling User Pling sig.png 15:32, 3 December 2011 (UTC)

Recent Updates and Speedy Deletion

Hi there admins, a few pages in Recent Updates have been waiting for speedy deletion for around a month now, seem to have been reverted by their author once (or maybe more), specifically the articles concerning "Muskateer" created by User:Kuulpb in the mainspace. Calling for clean-up please :) Darke 14:09, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Deletion-spreed. Candidates for deletion list clear for the moment. - Tanetris 15:43, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Restoration of deleted articles

I would like to request the restoration of strength, perception, and willpower, per the discussion here on the preservation of such articles. Aqua (T|C) 03:09, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Restored. pling User Pling sig.png 18:37, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Aqua

Posting a negative and taunting comment on my talk page (in other words drama that I wish to not answer). He/She was seemingly not allowing me to have a proposal on the editcopy, by quickly reverting me and claiming 1rr w/out my ability to even make a bold edit and explain. I would like an Admin to intervene with this person please. It is clear this person seems to have a personal issue. (It has been brought up by two others on the person's talk page of their poor commenting.) Thank you. 72.148.31.114 04:42, 23 January 2012 (UTC)

This issue is concluded. Felix Omni Signature.png 19:18, 23 January 2012 (UTC)
