We want to create safe, fun, and engaging experiences for all the users of the Services. This Code of Conduct is designed to help achieve that goal and applies to all users of ArenaNet’s Services. We reserve the right, in our sole and absolute discretion, to change, modify, add, or remove portions of this Code of Conduct at any time, with or without notice. Undefined capitalized terms in this Code of Conduct have the meanings assigned in the ArenaNet User Agreement (available at https://arena.net/en/legal/user-agreement) (the “User Agreement”).

The User Agreement contains other requirements that, with this Code of Conduct and other Community Standards, govern your use of the Services. If we determine in our discretion that you failed to comply with our User Agreement (defined below) or this Code of Conduct or other Community Standards, we may limit, suspend, or terminate your access to the Services and/or take other remedial actions that we deem appropriate (e.g., removing violative posts from forums, muting players, etc.).

  1. While using our Services, you must respect the rights of others and their rights to use and enjoy the Services. To this end, you may not defraud, harass, threaten, intimidate, or cause distress and/or unwanted attention to other users of the Services. Similarly, you may not use communications facilities made available as part of the Services to “troll” other users or ArenaNet personnel, post or share memetic images or phrases without substantive content, intentionally cause unrest among users of the Services, or otherwise be disruptive.
  2. You may not post or communicate any player’s real-world information (name, address, account name, etc.) through our Services.
  3. In connection with our Services, you may not use sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or racially or ethnically offensive language.
  4. In connection with our Services, you may not post or link to any sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or objectionable in a reasonable person’s view imagery or content.
  5. You may not spam, flood, or make duplicate posts when using facilities for communication with other users that we make available as part of the Services (e.g., chat functions, message boards, forums, wikis, etc.). Creating multiple threads on the same topic does not make it more likely that a message will be seen, but it does make it more likely that other users of the Services will be annoyed and irritated. If a user creates multiple messages with the intention of drawing attention away from other messages, disciplinary action will be taken. Similarly, users may not abuse formatting or other means of artificially drawing attention to a given message that may be made available as part of the Services when communicating with other users.
  6. You may not impersonate any employee of ArenaNet.
  7. You may not violate any local, state, national, or international laws or regulations in connection with your use of the Services.
  8. You may not market, promote, advertise, or solicit products or services using the Services (e.g., on chat channels, forums, etc.).
  9. You may not modify or copy any part of our Services (including our Games and websites).
  10. You may not buy, sell, trade, share, or transfer access to any Account, including Operator Accounts or advertise the purchase, sale, or other transfer of the same.
  11. We can’t allow real money trading using the Services. Selling anything for real money, be it digital items, services, or physical products is not allowed. You may not advertise the intent to or commit the act of buying or selling items for cash or trading items from one server to another.
  12. You may not arrange for the exchange or transfer of any pirated or illegal software while using the Services.
  13. You must follow the instructions of and be respectful to authorized personnel (e.g., game masters and community managers) in connection with your use of the Services.
  14. You may neither organize nor be a member of any pledges or groups within the Services that are based on or espouse any racist, sexist, anti-religious, anti-ethnic, anti-gay, or other hate mongering philosophies.
  15. You may not provide false information or intentionally hide any information when registering for an Account.
  16. You may not upload or transmit through or using the Services any copyrighted or trademarked content that you do not own all rights to without the express written permission of the author or copyright or trademark holder.
  17. You will not attempt to interfere with, hack into, or decipher any transmissions to or from the servers or other facilities running the Services.
  18. You will not exploit any bug in the Services and you will not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug (including bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits) either directly or through public posting, to any other user of the Services. Bugs should be promptly reported via support@arena.net.
  19. You will not attempt to play one of our Games on any server that is not controlled or authorized by ArenaNet or its designees.
  20. You will not create, use, or provide any server emulator or other site where a Game may be played, and you will not post or distribute any utilities, emulators or other software tools related to our Games without the express written permission of ArenaNet.
  21. You may not use any third-party program (such as a "bot") to automate gameplay functions, including playing, chatting, interacting, or gathering items within our Games. You may not assist, relay, or store items for other players who are using these processes.
  22. Any public discussion of disciplinary action or moderation is not allowed, and circumventing suspensions or bans by using another Account or having another user use the Services on your behalf is also not allowed. This includes posting or sharing with third parties any chat logs or email correspondence between a player and a Game Master (GM), moderator, administrator, or any member of ArenaNet staff.
  23. While participating in Player-vs-Player (PvP) gameplay in the Services, you will not participate in any form of match manipulation. Match manipulation is defined as any action taken to fix or manipulate the outcome of a match or alter or manipulate the rankings or ratings of the ladder. This also includes disrupting other users’ experiences in the Services by not actively participating in good faith (e.g., “griefing” or “leeching”).
