Walkthrough[edit]

Defend Carys from the krait swarming out of the water. After the cinematic, swim out to the tower and eliminate the krait standing around the tower (some of the krait may have strayed into the water, kill those too if the next cinematic doesn't play). Slightly above the entry ramp to the tower are the prisoners and another cinematic plays. Tegwen explains that there is a krait jailer with a set of keys for the cages swimming below. Kill the jailer at the bottom of the sea-bed, obtain the Master Key from his body, and then return to the cages. Return to the shore with your new allies and defeat a final wave of krait to complete the mission.

Note[edit]

When you approach the cages each of the prisoners has a star above their head. The players natural reaction may be to approach them and press the F interact key. This does not open the cages. You need to click on each cage and then you will get a interact to open the cages themselves.

Dialogue[edit]

When approaching Carys:

Carys: Stand and face me, you treacherous eels!
Carys: Deliver Tegwen back to me, safe and sound, or I will cut you into fishing bait!
Carys: And I—hey, are you listening?

Cinematic with Carys after saving her from the initial krait charge:

Carys: Slithery creatures! I'll chop you all into bait!
<Character name>: You were supposed to wait. Rushing off like that could have gotten you captured or killed. What were you thinking?
Carys: Thinking? I was thinking I should wait! But then I stopped thinking that, because there were krait. Those eels will pay for harming Tegwen!
<Character name>: All right, loose cannon. I see some krait spires over there. If Tegwen's their captive, they'll be holding her in one of those.
<Character name>: Come on. Let's go get her back—together.

Carys runs off after the cinematic and then returns:

Carys: Let's go!
Carys: (laughing)
Carys: I'll follow. Don't worry.

Speaking with Carys:

Carys: When we catch those krait, I'll knock their scales off.
Talk more option tango.png Have you ever fought krait before?
Uh...wait...hang on, I know this one. Yes! Yes, I have!
Talk more option tango.png What do you know about them?
They build towers, they enslave people, they worship...um...rocks? Is that right?
Talk end option tango.png I don't know. That's why I was asking you!
Talk end option tango.png That's a good attitude!

While getting closer to the captives:

Krait Damoss: No, surface scum. You will never get away!
Ehuatl: Drylander, please. Free me from this cage. Have mercy?
Larra: You! Free me! My massive intellect must be preserved!

Cinematic upon reaching the captives:

Carys: Tegwen, are you all right? Thank the Mother Tree, I was so worried.
Larra: Is this the celery stalk you keep babbling about, Tegwen? Well, spank me and call me apprentice. Looks like your salad days aren't over after all.
Tegwen: Carys? What are you doing here? Why have you left your post? You have a duty to protect Annwen. One of us must be there—
Larra: By the alchemy, stop being a Warden for ten seconds and just thank them, you wilting shrub!
Carys: Please don't be mad. I had to find you. I had to! I just couldn't think of anything clever. Then the Valiant came and did amazing things, and here we are.
Tegwen: Oh Carys. You may not be a genius, but you have such a good heart. Thank you for not giving up on me.
Larra: Some of us are still in cells, here! It's been really great waiting to be a krait-snack, but my toes are shriveling, and I'd like to go home.
Tegwen: Of course! My regrettable asura companion is correct. We must free all the prisoners—even the annoying ones.
Tegwen: There's a krait jailer is[sic] out there in the water. He'll have the keys to open these cages.
<Character name>: Don't worry. We'll find him. Everyone gets out of here alive—well, everyone except the krait.

Engaging the keymaster in combat:

Krait Keymaster: Warm-blooded filth! I'll throw you in the cages with the others!

Speaking with Carys again:

Carys: Keys, keys, who has the keys? Is he far? Near? Under our feet? I'm glad you're in charge, <Character name>. This would take me forever.
Talk more option tango.png Have you ever fought krait before? (same response as before)
Talk more option tango.png The jailer is dead! But where is the key? (if the jailer is dead but you haven't collected the Master Key)
Do krait have pockets? I don't think so. These guys are so creepy!
Talk end option tango.png I'll check his body again.
Talk end option tango.png Don't worry. We're doing fine.

After collecting the Master Key:

Carys: We did it! We got the key!
Talk end option tango.png Calm down, sapling. We still have to get back to the cages in one piece.

Freeing the captives:

Ehuatl: May the Sun bless you. I am free!
Larra: I hate cages almost as much as I hate logic problems. Thanks.

Speaking with Carys yet again:

Carys: I was looking around, and <Character name>—we need to get out of here. We can't stay, right?
Talk end option tango.png You're right—we absolutely cannot stay. Let's get going.

As you reach the shore:

Krait Damoss: The slaves are escaping! Stop them! Cripple them, if you need to!

Final cinematic:

Carys: I'm so glad you're safe, Tegwen. I was lost without you. I mean, I knew how to find north, but still—lost!
Tegwen: I'm very proud of you. You kept the beach clear and you rescued me. Valiant, how did you happen to be in Annwen?
<Character name>: Trahearne sent me. He hadn't heard from you since the letter you wrote during the storm, where you mentioned an Orrian artifact.
Tegwen: My mentor! I'm fortunate he was able to send you. He's taught me so much about defeating the creatures of Orr.
Tegwen: I wanted to get the artifact and send it to him for his research. It was a beautiful silver mirror, just radiant, covered in the designs of ancient Orr.
Tegwen: I saw it from my window during the storm, but the rains were too heavy to go out. When I went to search the beach the next morning, I was attacked by krait.
Larra: Hey! I was captured during that storm. I was checking the skritt traps near my lab. You know, I think I heard those rats chittering about a slab of "hard water." Might be your mirror.
Larra: I figure I owe you one for the rescue. Those skritt have a scratch near Zinder Slope. If you want, I'll show you where they live.
Carys: Oh, can we? I've never seen a skritt house, and that way we could still get the mirror. Tegwen?
Tegwen: Well, Annwen's protected by the seed-plants, and it is for a good cause. All right. Valiant, I'd like you with us. Shall we meet at Zinder Slope?
<Character name>: I'll see you there.

Speaking with your allies after the cinematic:

Carys: So the rats are called skritt? How curious. I wonder what it means in their language. Or even what it means in ours!
Talk end option tango.png Maybe we'll have a chance to ask. Come on.
Tegwen: A million thanks, Valiant. You and Carys risked your lives for me. I won't forget it.
Talk more option tango.png How do you know Trahearne?
When Orrian artifacts wash up on our beach, I bring them to him, and he teaches me about Orr. He's a mentor to me.
Talk back option tango.png You're lucky to have such a mentor. Can I ask you another question?
Talk end option tango.png You're lucky to have a mentor who knows so much about Orr.
Talk more option tango.png Carys said you were her partner?
She came out of the pod fighting. I respect that. With a little training, she could lead a squadron of her own.
Talk more option tango.png She's that talented?
She's amazing. Better than I'll ever be—you've seen her. She just needs...time to figure things out.
Talk back option tango.png She sure helped me. Can I ask you another question?
Talk end option tango.png She's not very smart, you mean. I get it.
Talk more option tango.png Who's this asura? Do we trust her?
Talk end option tango.png Maybe someday. After a whole lot more training.
Talk more option tango.png Who's this asura? Do we trust her?
Larra. She's loud-mouthed, ruthless, and vulgar. Your standard asuran scientist.
Talk back option tango.png Can I ask you something else?
Talk end option tango.png Heh. Understood.
Talk end option tango.png You're welcome, Tegwen.
Ehuatl: My thanks for the rescue. My family will be so worried. I need to get back to them.
Talk end option tango.png You're very welcome.
Larra: Out of one mess, into another. Skritt, here we come. If they so much as shake a whisker at me, I'll line a winter coat with 'em!
Ferocity Line your coat with skritt hide? That's sick!
I've experimented on skritt, and so has ninety-nine percent of Rata Sum. They're lab rats. Get over your squeamishness, asparagus-brain.
Talk end option tango.png I don't like it. You'd better not try that while I'm around.
Dignity Skritt may be less intelligent, but they're not animals.
Barely. I can hold better conversations with a tree. Oh, uh...no insult intended.
Talk end option tango.png I know what you meant.
Charisma Those little ratlings are adorable! We should keep one as a pet.
Have you gone mad? A skritt would steal you out of house and home—and what he didn't steal, he'd eat!
Talk end option tango.png We'll see for ourselves, I suppose.
Talk end option tango.png I'll see you there, Larra.

My story[edit]

Beneath the Waves.jpg

We rescued Tegwen! We also freed a hylek named Ehuatl, and an asura named Larra, who were also imprisoned. The item is a mirror from ancient Orr, but the skritt have stolen it. In a strange show of asuran kindness, Larra offered to help us get it back.
